4. kendou
bakugo and kirishima walk out the door with the free ice cream that they don't deserve but mina lost a bet and had to give them in their hands as kendou rushes in.
working in an ice cream store with a smart, strong girl is really hard. kendou is always late but she's good at math and her quirk is big hand. kendou has carried mina in her hand before. that only happened because mina asked like a dumbass lesbian but it still happened and mina will never forget it.
kendou smiles at mina as she rushes into the back to put away her stuff and mina swoons onto the counter. kirishima shoots her a look as bakugo pulls him away.
"sorry i'm so late," kendou says after mina peels herself off the class covering the ice cream. she's pretty sure kendou thinks she was looking at the ice cream so she's in the clear. mina needs to get better at detecting when kendou walks out of the backroom, kendou has seen way more than a crush mina's never going to act on ever should see.
mina shrugs it off."it's chill-," kendou groans at the pun and mina ignores her complaints. "kirishima and bakugo came in to bother me but other than that it's been a slow day."
kendou nods and starts serving herself an ice cream cone, "have you had your free sample yet?"
mina isn't sure what kendou just said because she's licking her ice cream cone but mina shakes her head in case it was a question. kendou reaches waves a hand in front of her face, "ashido, is something wrong?"
it's a simple question, it's a reasonable question. it's a question mina should be able to answer. mina doesn't answer the question because she just noticed that kendou has a new bracelet and it's really pretty, "kendou!!!!"
"yes, ashido?" is the worried response. kendou's only been working with her for a month so she doesn't completely understand mina's thought process.
mina and kendou have been working at yueei's ice cream shop because neither of them can afford boarding and kendou didn't want to take the free ride. mina fucked up her free board application by talking about how much midoriya needed it and she could figure something out. sero and kaminari were still teasing her about it, thankfully bakugo didn't know who got the free board instead of her.
mina plays with the little charms on kendou's bracelet, she's got something for all the yueei teachers, "kendou did you make this or buy it and how much do I have to pay to get my hands on one of these."
kendou sighs. she turns mina back towards the cash where a group of girls have made their flavour decision, "i'll make you one if you cover a shift for me, cool?"
mina grins, "fuck yeah!"
"no swearing in the shop."
the girls finish their order and are replaced with a smirking sero holding iida's hand. he's all smug about his new boyfriend even though mina's the one who set them up on a date. sero claims that telling iida sero's failing his classes and needs iida to tutor him doesn't count as setting him up on a date but sero's opinion isn't always right.
sero does a weird eye move from mina to kendou, "have you asked her out yet?"
iida's eyebrows fly up, "do you have a romantic interest in kendou?"
"yeah," mina says. "she's smart, pretty and stronk."
iida pauses, "stronk?" sero smiles up at his boyf and slings an arm around him in one of sero's weird half hugs.
"just ignore her tenya, mina doesn't know how to speak japanese." sero winks at her as mina sticks her tongue out and iida laughs at their exchange. mina loves her friends boyfriends.
then an arm finds its way around mina's shoulders and she turns to see kendou really really close to her. mina loves her inability to blush, it's a real aid to her useless lesbianism.
"hey class 1a president," kendou greets iida.
iida nods back, "hello class 1b president." the responsible dorks share a smile and sero waggles his eyebrows at mina again, he thinks that kendou likes her back. mina knows sero doesn't know shit.
kendou takes sero and iida's orders instead of bothering them like a responsible employee and iida and sero flash her thumbs up when kendou turns around. maybe it wouldn't be a completely awful idea to ask her crush out for once.
it takes two weeks for mina to get her courage together and she makes her move as they close up shop. "hey, kendou?" mina asks as she puts the ice cream in storage.
"mhm?" kendou's wiping down the counter but she looks up for a moment to show she's listening.
this is mina's chance. she's been spending her time carefully putting together the way she's going to ask out kendou. she clears her throat, "i'm gay for you."
it comes out better than expected.
kendou stops cleaning and puts her rag to the side. shit. "ashido," kendou starts at the same time mina's self confidence ends. "i like you too-"
"what." mina squints at kendou to see if she's joking. she doesn't seem to be.
kendou blushes a bit and mina is going to scream, "i like you too but, um. class 1b made a pact to not date anyone in class 1a.”
mina locks up the door to the ice cream freezer, takes off her apron, grabs her bag and walks up to kendou to look her straight (heh) in the eye. then she backs the fuck off, "that's kinda stupid but i don't have room to talk, so can we agree to not bring this up ever again?"
kendou agrees like the cute, smart, nice person she is and mina heads back home to scream into her pillow.
