the scene where scully sees the apparition of her father in "beyond the sea" might actually be one of my favorite scenes in all the x files. it's not flashy at all but it's genuinely unnerving....the way she can see him speak but not hear him....and the context of it, right after you see that they adore each other but are fundamentally unable to speak about so much. and how foundation-shaking for scully! love it.
