when wells lets a touch of self - deprecating humor slip forth, it's not with any intent of extracting such raw truth from aleksei. even if it's only for a moment, wells is seen — it's violating, vindicating, & deeply rattling. ( is being understood truly so terrible a thing ? [ ... ] why do you fear it with the irrationality of a scarred child ? ) ❛ ❛ trust me, i don't need any sorta mask for that. ❜ ❜ it's a dismissive deflection, wells taking a metaphorical bite out of his leg to free himself from the trap. though aleksei had gotten under his skin, he tries not to let it show; posture loose & concave, legs crossed where he seems to sink into the sofa. ❛ ❛ — the whole [ ... ] y'know, wolf thing, is off - puttin' enough. ❜ ❜

how light she feels, despite all the adornments weighing her down. diamonds &. pearls &. rubies red as blood drip from the god - saint, precious stones glittering beneath chandeliers as she &. her chosen dance partner flow &. spin across the floor. wine sinking into her blood, the two faces of aleksei's mask turns to three, then four [ ... ] she's giggling to herself quietly, pearly teeth catching a lip between them as she gazes up into those contorted plaster features. ❛ ❛ — did you know that the ancient vampires of rome believed janus was the first of our kind ? ❜ ❜
