❝ My mom was a cop, so the whole intimidation thing won’t work on me! ❞ The words are directed towards the mirror in the small room and truth be told, they’re more of a bluff than anything. Still, several more moments tick by and nothing. Granted, this isn’t their usual brand of beat cops bumbling their way through an interrogation. This is serious. When they were ushering her in ( for her “safety” --- but she suspects it’s more to keep her out form beneath their feet than anything ) she heard murmurs of the FBI being called in. Which means this thing? The string of bodies she’s been researching for the better part of three months? It’s not the fluke they try to play it off as. She’s on to something. And she’s stuck in an interrogation room so they can try and pull it out of her. Exhaling, Caroline goes back to pacing back and forth along the short length of the room as the minutes tick by, her fingers tapping against her folded arms.
It feels like a small eternity later ( it’s the point, she imagines, or maybe she could give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they’re debriefing ) when the door squeaks open and an overweight officer gives her an exasperated look. “Ms. Forbes,” He greets, she smiles ( though it’s more of a sneer than anything --- he’s the one that told her last week that she was wasting her time trying to tie meaning between these cases ), “FBI Senior Special Agent Jennifer Jareau,” The name rings a bell. But it’s not until the blonde steps in that she realizes why. ❝ JJ! ❞ This time, her smile is genuine. The last time she saw the other blonde was...years ago. Her, foolishly trying to find a way to honor her mother’s memory and serve and protect. JJ, communications liaison. Her idol, for a time. Gorgeous. Brilliant. And now... ❝ What happened to you? ❞ It’s more a statement of admiration than surprise. There’s something different. Gone are the feminine suits and straightened blonde hair and soft features. In their place is confidence. The kind that draws attention. The kind that demands attention. / @j-reau + plotted things !
