I FINALLY caught up on all the episodes of SDOC4 and Let's Chat, after watching nearly 14 hours of this over the course of a couple of days. 😅
Here are some thoughts I have after viewing it all.
(Spoilers ahead)
AC
I can't get enough of AC. His choreographed performance was ridiculous. Not only is he an incredible dancer, he has so much personality without being annoying or shrill like so many 'big personality' people can tend to be. He's smart, strategic and very, very talented.
Really looking forward to seeing more from him.
Han Geng
So surprising how well he did in the battle. I was really impressed because my expectations were fairly low, but he really brought out something that felt original and his own, and like it belonged in that battle.
He's also fun to have around as a sort of older brother figure to everyone.
Yixing
God God, his krump during the battle, that series of face grabs... wow. He is a powerful krumper. And talk about multi-talented. Playing the guitar and keyboards, all the farming skills he's developed from Back to Field. His producer skills. Talented guy.
It's also nice seeing him and DD interact, you can tell they know each other well.
Henry Lau
Love this man so much. He is such a sweet guy, but also so energetic and a huge gremlin. Like Han Geng, I wasn't expecting his battle performance to be as good as it was. A lot of originality and strength for someone who had never battled in front of others before.
Also very talented. Playing the violin, dancing, skateboarding, charming others. He impresses me every episode.
Mr 3
WTF, this guy completely blows my mind. His choreographed performance was entirely next level. WTF. Blew me away. Unforgettable.
Xiao Ji
I mean, we knew already how awesome he is, but man - this guy has starpower oozing out of his pores. His entire "I need to use the toilet but first let me blow you all away" flex was the highlight of this season so far, and this is coming from someone heavily biased toward AC.
His performance was quite possibly my favorite so far. Just mind-blowing considering he was unfamiliar with the music and his back teeth were floating the whole time. SO entertaining, so hilarious, so original. And watching Bobo freak out over him is priceless.
He has so much personality - again, and like AC it doesn't get annoying. He's just a really cool guy you can't help but love.
Ma Xiaolong
His choreography is next level, and he has all the required skill to perform it to its full potential. That's saying a lot. The elegance and precision he has make for very convincing performances that one can get completely lost in.
Bo Zi
I always have a weakness for the b-boys, but wow. That guy can move. WTF.
MT-POP
Absolutely incredible. SO original, so cool, so much rhythm and control. Guy blows me away. I can't wait to see more from him.
Kenken
So much style, skill, expressiveness and originality. This guy is exciting to watch. 20 years old. Wow, the guy has a hell of a career ahead of him.
Zyko
This guy is an alien. All I have to say. How is anyone even going to stand a chance against him?
Huang Xiao
Love his style, his ability, his beautiful lines, his creativity. Always a joy to watch.
Hapless Robot Server
This thing just keeps getting lost. Poor little guy.
DD
Truly the star of the show. He brings himself to everything. His authenticity is what makes him so well loved by his fans.
I loved him in the battle. He has such a natural connection to the music, it's undeniable. I can't wait to see more dancing from him.
Watching him eat is almost as enjoyable. This is one thing I've always appreciated about DDU and SDOC - they give us plenty of DD eating moments.
He really didn't want to put his finger down on the marriage question. 😅
DD and his little seed garden
He loves that garden. I hope it grows well for him. I definitely enjoyed watching him get absorbed in planting, and his enthusiasm when he saw the fresh sprouts.
I had a lot more people I wanted to highlight and a lot more I wanted to say, but my brain is fried today (allergies), so I think I'll leave it here. Just really looking forward to more from everyone. Loving this season. Loving the quality of the dancers. Loving that I'm finally caught up on everything!

Episode 5 of SDOC4 and Episode 4 of Let's Chat (Complete With Recipe)
Finally caught up and I have to say these are some of my favorite episodes so far. (Spoilers under the cut).
SDOC4 Episode 5
I REALLY enjoyed the choreography battles. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect given that some groups ended up with songs that were far outside their normal style, but everyone made it work so well. I am blown away.
AC vs GoGo Brothers
I was disappointed that AC’s team didn’t win their battle. I admit it might partly be my bias speaking, but I felt their performance was exquisite, creative and unique. They had a beautiful concept that was well executed. There were more ‘wow’ moments in their routine, and they were up against a much greater challenge with the music they had. I feel they really knocked it out of the park.
Team GoGo Brothers did an excellent job, undeniably. They’re all incredibly skilled and everything flowed together nicely, but I felt like I didn’t see anything that I hadn’t seen before. It was great that they were really tight and performed well together, but I wasn’t surprised by anything they did - I didn’t have any moment of holding my breath or feeling inspired. A bunch of strong dancers dancing in sync to a funky song. It was good. They did well.
Regardless of who had the better performance, it really broke my heart to see a krumper go home so early in the show, when I feel like we have 50 ‘funky lockers’. A real shame.
David vs Liang Liang
David’s group’s performance really touched me. The choreography stirred up images and feelings of youth and friendship. So well done. I was completely stunned. Even though I couldn't understand the lyrics, I felt the performance told the story of friendship in a very moving way. Great dance performances transcend words, and this is a perfect example of that.
Every aspect of their work contributed to the story/atmosphere in some way, right down to the color palette they chose for their costumes and the styles they chose to wear. I loved the fusion of contemporary and hip hop elements. Exceptionally well done.
I was sad that we didn't get to see the performance from Liang Liang's group, but I am grateful that production was respectful in deciding not to show a performance that had fallen apart.
I can't understand why he didn't just remove and toss the hoop from his head the second he realized it was interfering with his performance. Although it seems that wasn't the only reason their performance suffered.
Nelson vs Acky
Nelson’s team - what to say? They were incredible. Their choreography, the flow they had, the costumes, the creativity - I was stunned by what they came up with. My jaw had to be retrieved from the floor. These artists together are a formidable force. What a dream team. Wow.
Almost every moment of this routine was a 'wow' moment, and they incorporated so many innovative, original elements that I (and the judges) hadn't really seen before. I admit, I felt dismayed when they didn't win.
Acky's team was excellent, and I loved what they did conceptually, and they brought in some exciting elements and moments along the way (that levitation bit was incredible). I love the 'family' atmosphere Acky's team brought to the stage, and their performance was energetic and uplifting.
It can't be denied that the story they told touched the heart and was probably a big part of what the audience was responding to. The extra effort Acky took with the red envelopes for the judges was also a nice touch.
Plus who doesn't absolutely LOVE Acky? Could such a person be said to have a soul? And can I just say, that man can move!!
I really loved the looks as well. Whoever styled their costumes did a great job. Very colorful and lively and fresh. It added a lot to the overall atmosphere of the performance.
Still, seeing Klash go home so soon was 💀💀💀.
Yang Kai vs Ibuki
Wow. They both did such a great job of their performances. The concepts were both very engaging and told stories I found interesting and entertaining. Tough call for the judges, but they chose the performance I would have chosen.
Getting to Know Each Other
I especially enjoyed watching the various ways the team leaders worked to bring their teams together and get to know each other. The chalkboard drawings, the meals shared, the heartfelt and very touching letters from Acky, the shared stories... I loved this aspect of the show so much.
Final Cypher
Nelson dominated completely, throughout the entire battle. He was hard to catch, but AC really left it all on the floor. I think the end result was fair and reflected my own thoughts on how well they all did.
Team Building
This is always a fun part of the show. It's interesting to see who the coaches choose, who the dancers choose, etc. I am looking forward to seeing how it all works out.
AC and Ibuki on the same team, Nelson and Bouboo on the same team - I can't wait to see the performances that come out of that.
So far, just based on the initial four choices, I think DD and Han Geng have the strongest teams.
Han Geng giving DD Nelson was a total🥺moment. That's devotion! Poor Henry, though. Such the underdog!
AC's Haircut
Hard to feel sad about it when he looks so damn adorable in his shorter hair.
Let's Chat Episode 4
I always love these episodes. They're so much fun, and we get to see DD eat.
Watching DD cook is even more fun, and this episode really delivered. Best of all, The Pancake™ made an appearance! Based on what I was able to see, here's the recipe:
DD's Quarantine Pancake
1 pre-made scallion pancake
1 egg
Bacon
1 slice cheese
Lettuce
Ketchup
Heat a bit of oil in a pan. Add pancake and fry until golden brown on one side. Flip pancake and crack an egg on top. Stir the egg with chopsticks to scramble. Once the egg has cooked enough to stick to the pancake, flip to finish cooking the egg. Remove pancake from pan and place on a plate egg side up. Fry bacon. Top pancake with cheese, bacon and lettuce. Drizzle with a bit of ketchup. Roll into a wrap. Enjoy.
The other coaches were all such great cooks! I was impressed. Especially Han Geng, I mean, the guy really could cook. I loved watching DD react to Henry's noodle dish. Such enthusiasm for food. If he were an animal he'd be so easy to train - highly motivated by food. 😅
I wanted to try every single dish those guys made. Especially DD's pancake - which I fully plan to make one of these days.
DD is a born entertainer, and he is such a sucker for praise! It's very endearing. He always outdoes everyone around him, to hilarious effect. The yoyo, the magic tricks. Quite the showman.
My only complaint about this episode was that we didn't get to see much of DD with his little lettuce garden. I'm very invested in DD's relationship with those sprouts, and I was disappointed not to see more from them. Next time!!
I also wish I had more time to watch them right as they air. It's annoying have to dodge all the posts (spoilers) everyone is making, and then later try to catch up on them all!
Anyway, already looking forward to next week's episodes.
IMPORTANT: Please, when responding to these, remember not to post any spoilers. I want people (including myself) to be able to read the notes of these posts and not get spoiled. Thanks!
Going to just dive right into the spoilers, so here's a cut.
Episode 6 of SDOC4
Ma Xiaolong and Zyko
WTAF. These two together are like magic. Wow. We already knew that Ma Xiaolong is an incredible choreographer (truly among the best I've ever seen and I watch a LOT of dance), but this was so over the top amazing even for him. The two really flow together amazingly well. I have no words.
There's no way anything they went up against stood a ghost of a chance, not even Huang Xiao and Kenken's strong performance.
Ibuki and AC
THANKS SDOC for putting those two together. Please let them go all the way because I really need more of them. Such a great duo and so entertaining together. Such a formidable force as well. Love them so much. Especially AC. He has so much personality, intensity and humor. And, of course, talent.
His cute funky locking performance was a real treat, particularly for someone like me who feels this style is vastly over-represented this season. More on that later...
Team Han Geng
They slayed, utterly slayed, every performance and completely dominated the team battles. Good for them. Strong team. Really strong team.
I absolutely love Han Geng and I'm glad for DD that he has someone like Geng ge around this season to support him.
50 Funky Lockers
I thought maybe I was being a bit harsh last week when I was expressing disappointment about the early elimination of a strong krumper, but really, a picture is worth a thousand words...
Xiao Ji and the B Boys
I am always heavily biased toward b boys because I've always had a thing for b boys, but I loved these guys and their performance was a highlight for me. Xiao Ji is fucking hilarious, really one of my favorite people in the entire show. I always look forward to his performances because they totally ooze originality and wit. And he's not just a goofball, the guy has genuine skill.
His banter between performances is also always entertaining. His comparison of Lil Kev to Conor McGregor killed me. LOL.
The Waachoreography Group
What more can I say - this performance stole the night. So well done. So exceptionally well choreographed and executed. They deserved their win.
I loved the way DD just rattled off the list of who led all the bits of choreography, and picked out Bunta as the lead. DD is a perceptive guy, and smart when it comes to dance. He knows his stuff.
BUNTA!!!!!!!!!
He's been one of my favorites from day one. The guy is so powerful, so beautiful and so talented. I want SOOOO badly for him to end up on Team Boom!. Not only is he amazing choreographer, he has a style that would really compliment DD's dance style and approach.
Please globs, just let me have this one thing!🙏🏻
The Poppers
Loved this group. They really did an excellent job. Jr Taco is another great personality with the skill to back it up. And MT-POP is another favorite of mine from the earlier episodes. The guy has so much talent and originality, and the way he moves is so unique and clean. His stage presence and ability to project a character are practically unmatched this season.
This group's performance was so strong, especially considering the level of difficulty they chose to put into the choreography. They nailed it with only a few minor glitches. So well done.
The Judges
Glad they did a little intro where we got to see them perform for a few seconds. That was a nice touch. Phillip Chbeeb and Tham were amazing - especially Tham, who stunned me with her acrobatics - but Eagle One completely blew me away. WTF bro...
The Cuts
Wow, what a savage cull they did this episode. Especially eliminating all but one from the Japanese team. Just such a shame the way it all fell out. I feel like we're distilling the group down to a narrower and narrower range of styles/dancers every episode. Not really happy with what they've been doing. I guess time will tell how that's all going to play out in the end.
Episode 5 of Let's Chat
It wasn't as exciting an episode this week. Nothing really captured me here. I didn't even get to see DD and his little lettuce garden. It was fun watching them eat and talk, but nothing to write home about.
But to be fair, last week's episode is a hard act to follow.
When Henry was talking about fans making music schools in his name, I thought of all the BXG projects that have been done for GGDD and felt sad DD couldn't talk about them as well. But at least they exist, and no doubt GGDD know about them and appreciate the good work being done in their names.
I also enjoyed seeing Han Geng giving DD some sour plums. As we know, DD loves his sour plums. There was even a fake rumor about it a while back.
I hate to say I've been finding Henry a bit annoying lately. I used to find his shtick really cute and endearing, but lately it's been getting a bit much. I feel bad about it though. He is a sweet guy. He's just coming across as fake lately. He could stand to dial it down a notch or two and just relax a bit.
Hopefully he'll snap out of it at some point.
Didn't DD look really fresh and youthful for this episode of hot pot? So cute cool.
Already looking forward to next week.
IMPORTANT: Please, when responding to these, remember not to post any spoilers. I want people (including myself) to be able to read the notes of these posts and not get spoiled. Thanks!
I am behind on writing these, but I don't want to miss a week so here we go...
Spoilers under the cut.
Episode 7 of SDOC4
This episode was one of my absolute favorites so far. I really enjoyed all of the performances, the sense of joy and fun, and the camaraderie we got to witness among the dancers and captains.
Battle Rooms
It was fun watching the fledgling teams interact in their battle rooms. I especially enjoyed watching Hang Geng's team make dumplings. Ma Xiaolong and Zyko are so cute together.
Captain DD
DD is a no bullshit guy, which is one of the things I admire/relate to most about him. He speaks his mind, is authentic and honest, and I get the sense that people never have to wonder where they stand with him. A lot of people find that intimidating or even rude, but I completely disagree.
I think this quality is hugely underrated - and often harshly punished in this society - but it's so valuable. There's no manipulative fake pleasantness, nothing 'left up to interpretation', no doubts, no 'friend to your face, dagger to your back' - just solid honesty and looking each other in the eye, which builds loyalty and connection. I view this approach as incredibly respectful and authentic.
Just watching how DD handled that 'tough love' meeting with his team, that really shone through. He was clear and direct, and left nothing to the imagination.
I think that as he builds the group and builds that sense of security and clarity with the dancers, they are going to have a strong bond and go far together. Everyone knows what's expected of them, and everyone had a chance to clear the air. He gave them a path forward and showed them that his expectations are high because he knows they can do better.
Trust is the backbone of any shared performance, especially onstage or in front of a crowd. DD is building trust in his team. It's going to pay off in the end, no matter how difficult the process may be at first.
Team Selection and Gift Giving
I thought this year's approach was very interesting. I enjoyed the team selection process. It gave me a chance to learn interesting things about the dancers and their relationship with the captains. The gifts were thoughtfully chosen and gave us a glimpse into the personality of both the giver and the receiver.
I won't go into the weeds on this, but the gifts that stood out to me:
Momo - so cute to give her peaches, because 'momo' is Japanese for peach.
Bo Zi - the thoughtful gifts Hang Geng got him to support his injury were so sweet.
Chunlin - I was cringing a bit with Henry's gift, but I guess it did the trick!
I won't bother commenting on DD's gifts to Keven. We've been over it all before.
Team Boom!
Nelson
No-brainer choice, here. Nelson is one of the strongest dancers there this season.
Bouboo
I couldn't imagine the team without him. He and DD belong together.
Keven
Another obvious choice, he really belongs. It wouldn't be right to see him on another team.
David
I have mixed feelings about him. He's strong, no doubt about it, but he hasn't truly wowed me yet.
Liang Liang
Not sure what I'm missing here, but he's one of the dancers I'm not excited about yet. I trust DD's judgment, though, so I trust that will change as LL has a chance to show more of himself.
Momo
I was glad DD grabbed her, and I think she's going to be a huge asset to his team. I think she'll be a good fit with their styles, and hopefully wrangle them a bit and help make them more cohesive.
Hilty and Bosch
Solid choice. They are both strong dancers. The fact that they watched DD last season and were excited to join his team made me so proud of our boy!
Jr Taco
Loved this choice. He's one of my favorites this year.
Wang Yalong
I don't recognize this guy, nor do I remember him being added to the team. I feel bad, but I'm sure I'll get to know him over time.
EDIT: How could I have forgotten about Toozin! LOL
The Party
This was truly the highlight of the season for me so far. I really enjoyed watching all the dancers and captains let loose and show another side of themselves, some of their other talents or interests. What a treat for the viewers!
The opening performances were excellent, and games are always good for a laugh (in the hoop game DD, as usual, proved he's smart and competitive), but the most exciting part of this section was the performances from the dancers and captains.
Henry
He's so cute, fun and talented. It was great to see him play the piano and violin, and his team seemed to be having a great time.
Was I imagining DD's glassy eyes during the first performance? 🥺 I wonder if a certain bunny ever sings that song to him...
Waacking DD
The man has such an amazing knack for picking up choreography quickly, it's like a savant superpower or something. Although I could have stood to see a bit more sass from his performance. Cool guy DD was definitely holding out on us...
Magician DD
GIVE THE MAN A WEEKLY MAGIC SHOW PLS.
DD's tricks were entertaining, but what I enjoyed most was watching his showmanship. When you think about how he is on Day Day Up - often fairly quiet and reserved - and then you look at how he is whenever he is performing magic, it's a big contrast. When he's doing something that he's excited about, where he feels in his element, he really shines.
Don't get me wrong, I love him on DDU and I think he's a great co-host, but "magician DD" could carry an entire show of his own and make it exciting and engaging. He has so much confidence and charisma when he's in that zone.
Plus his (well hidden) nerves were cute af. That little shiver he did at the end. So cute. Sorry DD.
Han Geng's Dance Performance
WOW. WOW. WOW. I was completely blown away by this. Not only the beauty and grace of the performance, but his characteristic clever humor in bringing in the film crew. So good. Wow.
Geng ge can dance. I mean, the guy is incredible. He has amazing lines, so sharp and so fluid. The personality injected into every movement. Jaw on floor.
The bit with the film crew totally slayed me. HG has such a sense of humor about everything, it's incredibly endearing. I'm getting very attached to him. He's awesome.
I have to say, I love Mongolian dance so much. I find it so moving, elegant, graceful, peaceful and beautiful. I had that same feeling back when Ayunga performed it on Our Song.
Ma Xiaolong
As you already know, he's one of my favorites. Seeing him sing was so fun. So much energy and power, and he's actually pretty good!
Rochka
WTF dude, wow. The guy can sing?! And write songs? This guy is so talented. One of the best dancers on the show, and all this other talent? Plus the looks and personality?! He's got it all. Love him so much. Plus it was so satisfying to be able to understand what he was singing! 😅
Dance Battles With Children
I was not expecting the level of skill and ability these kids demonstrated. Not on any level. They surprised the hell out of me, especially the really little ones. Seeing a little 3" high kid doing air flares and head spins is quite the experience! Proof children are actually aliens from another planet...
Xiao Jie's son has so much personality!! Cute af.
But to me, the real highlight of the battle was the opportunity to see Hilty and Bosch and The Gogo Brothers perform as individuals. Wow, these guys are all so incredibly talented, it's mind-blowing. Rei's performance (white hat) was shocking - so good. Wow.
What a great, rare opportunity to see them all battle solo.
Zyko
I was truly heartbroken to see him go, especially under those circumstances. I hope everything worked out with his sister. He is such a massive loss to the season - one of the biggest standouts who I was really looking forward to seeing more from. I hope does return at some point, even if we have to wait until next season.
Such a beautiful, massively talented guy. 😢😢😢
Episode 6 of Let's Chat
This episode was not as fun as some of the previous ones. Although you'll never see me complain about getting to watch DD eat.
Maybe because I watched right after the party episode of SDOC and that was a hard act to follow, I don't know, but this episode didn't grab me at all. I enjoyed it, but there's not much to comment on.
It was interesting hearing them talk a bit about the gifts they chose, it was interesting hearing them talk with the guests about food, but overall it wasn't very memorable.
I did, however, once again greatly enjoy watching DD perform magic tricks. He is so entertaining when he's in magician mode. It was a bit mean of him to give away everyone else's tricks, though. He can be so competitive! 😅
Anyway, I've now got, like, 8 hours of SDOC and Let's Chat to watch, dodging spoilers all the while! Being behind is so tragic! 😅
IMPORTANT: Please, when responding to these, remember not to post any spoilers. I want people (including myself) to be able to read the notes of these posts and not get spoiled. Thanks!
This post became so long and has taken so much time I'm going to do the Let's Chat episode separately.
SDOC4 Episode 9
Choreography Battle Round 1
I always enjoy watching good choreographed performances.
First and foremost I have to give full props to Yixing's jacket. What a sparkly jacket, and it looked great on him.
I also absolutely love DD's 'match, fuse, BOOM' thing. So cute cool.
Team Yixing - MT Pop, Poppin C and Kenken
I was more excited about the grouping than I was by their performance. It felt a bit restrained and lacked some spark or energy. The concept was interesting and there was a lot that could be done with it, but it ended up coming across as a bit of a missed opportunity.
Kenken kept everybody in a tight little clump the entire time, and it began to feel claustrophobic. There was no use of the stage there was no real movement. I kept waiting for something to happen, and it just didn't go anywhere. It felt a bit repetitive by the end, and it fell a little flat for me.
The intro was exceptionally good, with the way the fabric was moving, and they had good coordination with the background sound and Kenken's movement (which I'm sure the guys couldn't see under that blanket). I was impressed by that part, but I would have liked to have seen more movement and to see the performance open up a bit. It just never got there.
Team Boom! - Liang Liang, Toozin, Jr Taco and Keven
Strong concept, clever, judicious use of props without letting them become crutches. The intro was excellent and set a tone, but I felt the dance gradually lost a little bit of coherence toward the end. It was excellent and very well executed, I just would have liked to have seen a slightly more coherent story being told.
If these are ghosts or spirits or invaders of some kind, then why are they dancing with the watchman? I would have liked to see more of an oppositional force at work between them. For a story that started out so scary and suspenseful, there was very little tension by the end.
This isn't the only performance of the night to make that mistake.
I feel Jr Taco is a bit of a weak link when it comes to hanging onto and executing choreography, or getting the timing of the steps right. He was off at times, and burdened his attention/immersion with watching the others to try to follow what they were doing and keep on track. As a result he was out of step and didn't give as convincing a performance.
Still, this was clearly the superior routine. It had good energy and a trajectory of emotion, and pacing that made it interesting and engaging and involved more variety of movement than the other performance.
I was not at all surprised by the vote outcome. It was a good reflection of where I felt the level of the performances were.
I couldn't help but notice that the rattling jug had a red cloth cover tied with a yellow ribbon under a green spotlight... 🤡
Team Henry Lau - Tao Tao and Cici
I admit I came into this performance a bit cynical. It was pretty predictable for them to do a duo performance, and I was prepared for it to be very similar to what we've seen from them before. I didn't feel it was as much of a departure as some of the captains were claiming in their feedback.
I get that they work well together, but there's a point where presenting the same sort of dynamic over and over again gets a bit tired. It would have been nice to see them challenge themselves by adding a third person into the mix to create a more interesting atmosphere.
I didn't feel the concept came across as well as it could have, either. Another missed opportunity. I didn't get enough of a strong sense of Tao Tao's fire or of Cici's water. The behavior of two elements was too similar. It was kind of cool that it made me think about the similarities between fire and water - they both have wave-like motions, they both ripple - but I think it would have been better if we could have gotten more of a clear sense of their differences. It would have made their similarities stand out more.
I also completely agreed with everything that DD said. The performance could've benefited from opening up a bit and having a bit more individual movement so that when they came together those connected movements would have had more impact. As it stood it was too harmonious throughout, when I think a bit of discord would have made the eventual harmony stand out more and would have given the audience more of a sense of discovery at the end.
Overall I feel like if you're going to create a performance that is visually understated and moody like this, it needs to have a lot of emotional impact in order to be effective. This was a bit flat for me. I'm also a bit 'over' the whole Tao Tao and Cici thing. It's been done to death. I stopped short of rolling my eyes...
They are excellent dancers who work exceptionally well together, but they've been leading us across the same ground over and over again and my eyes are glazing over.
The discussion about their personal relationship didn't sit right with me. It felt irrelevant and out of place, and trying too hard to be cute.
Team Han Geng - AC, Ibuki, Eleven and Yu Wan
When I saw the beginning of this I was so excited. I thought, "Who doesn't love a good bar fight?" Unfortunately it's just didn't come together. The story started out feeling clear and coherent, and then kind of got chaotic and lost as it progressed. The reconfiguring of the prop walls became an unnecessary distraction and really detracted from the performance.
It would have been so exciting to see 'dance battle meets sword battle', and they had the opportunity to do that with their movements, but they didn't. Another missed opportunity.
AC missed some of his choreo in the middle and that only highlighted the fact that the performance was overcomplicated. The overly expansive staging, the dickering around with the prop walls, the awkward and distracting movement of dancers into the background and away from the center of the action - all of this detracted from the performance and probably added an unnecessary burden to their ability to properly rehearse and remember what they were supposed to be doing, when.
Also, as I mentioned earlier, if there are oppositional forces in a performance then they need to behave in an oppositional way at least some of the time. This team didn't create any tension between the warriors. It felt like they all just decided to do a musical theater performance about friendship in the middle of a bar fight. None of the moves they chose to do built on the story they had started to tell. Quite the contrary.
Here's a tip for all of the dancers, which they'll never see: If something isn't adding to the story, it's probably detracting from it. This actually goes for a lot of things, including writing.
I'm actually going to link the performance here so you can re-watch it and see what I'm talking about with all the problems this performance had.
A disappointment. It felt confusing, and they created the wrong kind of tension. Rather than building tension between the characters, they created tension in the audience as we tried to make sense of what was going on.
Their costumes and hair were outstanding. They truly looked amazing. Kudos to whoever came up with the looks.
AC has a talent for creating and conveying a character, and that came across so well at the beginning when he was sitting there drinking. He has incredible stage presence and I wonder if he's ever considered theatre or acting.
It made me sad to see him beat himself up so badly over the missed choreography. Mistakes happen; it's part of life and he shouldn't be ashamed. He did his best with what he had. Any errors were down the overcomplicated staging and choreography, and not the fault of the dancers, in my opinion.
I could identify with Keven when he was talking about how cute AC looked during his moment of panic. I totally agree with you, bud.
I wasn't surprised by the outcome. The duo performance was just tighter and better executed, but I enjoyed watching the group performance a lot more.
Choreography Battle Round 2
The bottle spinning mystery was funny. It will be interesting to see if or how that influences what people want to do moving forward.
Team Henry Lau - Rochka, Chika, Chunlin and Han Yu
OK, now we're talking. Wow. I loved absolutely everything about his performance, and the execution was almost flawless. Absolutely outstanding in every possible way.
The choreography was fantastic. I love those fast-paced movements, it was very hard hitting, and there was creativity with zero reliance on gimmicks. I was massively impressed by this performance. This was a solid dance performance with a good, clear concept that didn't overcomplicate the routine.
Chika was a real standout here. She has amazing swagger, and everything about her execution, her attitude, her stage presence and her commitment to the performance shone through. Very impressed by her.
The story they chose to tell was nice and simple and very easy to convey via DANCE. Wise choice, exceptionally well handled.
if I had one thing I'd critique it's that overhead lift to leg splits thing. The lift was fine, but the whole leg splits jump through thing wasn't a big enough visual payoff for the level of difficulty. They clearly struggled to execute it and it came off as a bit awkward.
They would have been smart to axe that and focus on making the rest of the performance tighter. It was already so close to perfect - they could have reached perfection if they'd been a bit more ruthless in cutting out something that was overcomplicating their routine.
Having said all of that, this was a great performance, and it felt more like something DD's team should be doing. It's so in line with his style and his level of perfectionism.
Rochka's cute meme moment made me smile. He's such an irresistibly likeable guy.
Team Yixing - Bunta, Gogo Brothers and George
This was an exciting matchup. All of these dancers are very strong and I'm a big fan of Bunta's choreography. Unfortunately, it didn't quite meet its potential.
I agree with some of the critiques that people had of this performance. For example, I agree that the message was lost somewhat, and I agree that the prop became a burden to some degree, but what I don't agree with at all is that "the strengths of each dancer were not shown to full advantage." There is a huge difference between not doing what you're known for, and not doing a good performance.
The Gogo Brothers - because they have such a signature style - can easily fall into the trap of predictability and doing the same things over and over again that continue to win them all the prizes, but they had the guts to try something different, and I was really impressed by that.
They did a fantastic job. They know how to move, they know how to use their bodies, they know how to handle choreography, they know how to create interesting, beautiful lines. They did all of this. I don't know what Han Geng was talking about.
This performance didn't fall flat because of the way the dancers were used or the style that was chosen, it fell flat because - much like the cyberbullying performance from the previous episode - this performance relied too heavily on the metaphor of the prop to try to communicate the story. It's simply not enough.
I also agreed with those who talked about the music being a poor choice. It was a big part of why the message didn't come across. If they'd chosen a more emotional, heart-wrenching song it would have helped lead the audience to where they were trying to take us. As it stood the music felt oddly out of place with the mood of the piece and only created more confusion.
This routine was another missed opportunity, because concept was good, the prop was interesting, and the dancers all had the skill to pull off a good performance. What Bunta failed to do was to give us a coherent, powerful emotional message. It didn't come together in the end, and that's why it fell flat.
Despite the fact that they didn't manage to pull off a victory, I'm still glad that I got to see them step out of their comfort zone and try something new, and do it well. For that reason, I think this will be one of the most memorable performances of the night for everyone.
The votes fell pretty much exactly as I would have thought. I didn't disagree with the numbers.
Team Boom! - Bouboo and Momo
This was a totally unexpected pairing and a totally unexpected theme and storyline. So cute, and mostly well-executed. The two of them were absolutely adorable together. Finally a coherent story and a bit of restraint shown in terms of using props. Especially that photo at the end. Truly an excellent way to close the performance.
The thing that really shocked me was the incredible chemistry between the two of them. They were adorable. Bouboo has such a cutie pie side to him, and this performance or this pairing really brought it out in him.
There was something sentimental about the music and the setting and the black-and-white movie aspect of the whole thing. The dance moves and the coordination between them had an interesting echo of 'old Hollywood musical'.
Some of the moves were a bit awkward - especially the floor work after the 'oncoming car save' - but overall I was impressed by what they put together, and I felt they did what they were meant to do: entertain us without making us feel confused or uncomfortable.
The fact that they infused it with such sweetness and romance was totally unexpected and felt like a revelation. Well done.
Team Han Geng - Acky and Ma Xiaolong
The moment that I saw that Ma Xiaolong was going to be performing with Acky, I knew that it was all over for Team Boom! this round. I've said this before, but he is simply one of the best choreographers I've ever seen in my life, and I watch a lot of dance. In this sort of a battle I think he's got to be nearly impossible to beat.
The concept, the execution, the costumes, the use of props and storyline, the staging and the dance elements... Everything about this performance was captivating and beautiful.
Ma Xiaolong is a true artist, and I feel like with every performance he does he brings us into this fascinating little world inside his head. I feel like I'm watching a drama or something, not a 2-minute dance performance. He has his own distinctive style and flavor, yet he never makes me feel like I'm getting something I've seen before.
He has a gift for transporting the audience, and for storytelling in a very sophisticated way that brilliantly manages to avoid alienating the general audience. In fact, his stories are always very accessible and easy to understand for just about any age group, language or cultural background.
But while his stories are accessible enough to appeal to absolutely everyone, they still having enough depth to powerfully speak to those who have a taste for philosophy, literature, art, poetry and culture. That is no small feat. It makes him a master storyteller. Such an incredible range of appeal - from depth and sophistication for artists and intellectuals at one end to simple, pure storytelling for the masses at the other - is rare to find.
Acky played his role exceptionally well and was perfectly cast. He gave just the right visual and played it up well. The use of the rooftop prop was inspired. It really set a beautiful, whimsical tone for the entire piece. The use of the brush and the broom was an incredibly smart move. THIS is how you build characters and create a story in the minds of the audience using next to nothing.
The flavor of Ma Xiaolong's movements takes my breath away. He has such a beautiful way of embodying an intriguing, lively, captivating character that I want to follow deeper into the story. His voiceover work only added to this. He gave us something powerful and memorable, here, and this coming on the heels of the guqin performance with Zyko. I'm gobsmacked.
I cannot say enough about how impressed I am by him as a choreographer and as an artist. Truly a one-of-a-kind talent.
I think it goes without saying that this was the superior performance. Bouboo and Momo did not stand a chance. I don't think anyone in the competition could stand against that performance.
Choreography Battle Round 3
Team Yixing - Bo Zi, Daswtich and Huang Xiao
This was a good, strong concept that was well-executed. A simple story that is easy to understand, wrapped up in some good dance moves and some exciting moments. Huang Xiao did a good job of bringing everyone together in a cohesive, harmonious way..
However, the story didn't captivate me or move me the way I expected it to. While the story was clear and well-told, the characters lacked charisma. I didn't feel invested in what was happening to any of them. I felt like they were all interchangeable with one another. They each needed their own distinct tone and flavor of movement, their own role in the story. It didn't come across for me.
As I said earlier, he brought everyone together in a cohesive, harmonious way, but he went too far in that direction, at the expense of characterization. The composer character in the story was pretty well realized, but the other two weren't adequately differentiated from him so that it all felt a bit watered down.
Another missed opportunity. He would have done better to highlight the differences in styles between the two dancers than to water them down. He used this story to bring everyone's styles together, and he didn't capitalize on that.
Another choreographer who didn't build enough oppositional force into the action, and the piece suffered because of it. It would have been more powerful if the two 'creative muses' were pulling him in different directions.
However, it was a good performance and they danced well.
Daswitch really put his foot in his mouth! 😅
Team Boom! - Hilty and Bosch with David
I was all, "Aww, DD is encouraging the group before they go onstage. Such a good captain!" and then he said, "BUT - we need to win!" Ahh, DD, please never change. 😅
This performance really blew everyone away, myself included. They earned their "BOOM!" name, that's for sure.
I loved that their starting point was "How can we surprise the audience?" That was the right place to start. Especially when working with a duo like H&B, and 3 lockers who have a similar style. It would have been easy to give the audience an outstanding performance of what they were expecting to see, but with a bit of risk there's opportunity for a greater reward.
I actually felt emotional watching their performance, because I couldn't help but feel touched thinking about what it must have meant to David to work so closely with them, and to push them out of their comfort zone and have something to teach them. What an opportunity for a young dancer. And for these older well-established dancers to have an opportunity to learn and grow is also a big opportunity. Wow.
It was also exciting to see them embrace the challenge and work so hard to pull it together. I am incredibly impressed.
The performance was dripping with wow factor. Jaw on floorboards. They pulled off an exceptionally well executed performance of a routine that had an extremely high level of difficulty, which showed not only their skill, but their brains too. Such a smart performance, so many wise choices.
Their choice to base it on the crossover of these two anime series was clever, particularly since the performance didn't rely entirely on the story. The power of the performance came first, and the story only enhanced it. This is the right way to go. The generational range with the story and characters was a smart choice for the broadest appeal. Well thought out.
This performance was the proverbial 'tide that lifts all boats'. It elevated every one of the performers in some way. Which isn't an easy feat when you're working with dancers who are already at the top of their game. Wow. So impressed.
Their precision, their unity, their energy... every aspect of the performance was outstanding. The only mis-step was the wardrobe malfunction, which was minor and handled well by David.
It's always exciting to see DD be proud of something, because he is such a perfectionist. And he was so proud of them. They knocked it out of the park.
I had to ask myself, who were the 5 curmudgeons who didn't throw their towels? Shocking. This was a performance that shows the power and potential of street dance.
There were so many 'WOW' moments here, I lost track. ZIN's backflip, the 'lights out' unison drop, the energy, the intensity, their use of the stage. Like Rochka said, it felt like there were dozens of dancers onstage. Truly, truly outstanding.
Much-deserved victory. Undeniable.
Team Hang Geng - Stone, Xiao Jie, Xiao Ji and Fan Fan
I don't know what I was expecting from this team, but it definitely wasn't.... this. Wow. What an energetic, humorous, nostalgic, witty performance. Completely blown away.
Stone stole the show with his bicep popping. So hilarious.
As someone who spent more time inside of night clubs than out, I really appreciated this theme and found it hugely entertaining. There were so many memorable moments in this performance. Their false stop, the muscle popping, the rollerskating bit, which totally slayed me. Packed full of humor and style.
With all these clever little moments, they ran the risk of fragmenting their performance and losing the flow, but they managed it all exceptionally well. It had a breathless, 'life flashing before your eyes' sort of feel to it that held together and kept me engaged. Very well done.
I loved these dancers together. Such an unlikely grouping, but the chemistry was perfect for what they were doing. Amazing, amazing.
The highlight for me, though, had to be Xiao Jie doing the 'mountain climbing' steps dance during the captains feedback. Fucking hilarious and spot on. 😅
Team Henry Lau - Boris, C-GO, Waiwai, C-Lil and Mr Three
I noticed the Toy Story costumes early on in the episode and had been looking forward to seeing what they would do with the theme.
It was fun and energetic, but didn't quite grab me. It would have been more engaging if they'd come up with a little mini-drama to play out while the humans were away. As it was, like so many dancers I felt they got bogged down in props and gimmicks, and that detracted from the power of their performance.
They needed to keep in mind that since they were wearing visually striking, recognizable costumes, they were already essentially 'walking props'. Given that reality, they should have pared the other visual elements down a bit so as not to overwhelm the viewer.
The stage was just too 'busy' and there were a lot of visual distractions so it was difficult for the eye to focus on the performance. A more minimalist bed, for example, in dark colors to match the color of the stage, would have made all the difference (perhaps with a neon bright strip around the top - not visible to the audience - for Boris's safety when jumping). As it stood, the fabric choice was incredibly messy and visually distracting.
The audience, if given the dark SHAPES of the pillows and bed, would have had more fertile ground for the imagination, while the dancers would have stood out dramatically in such a setting. It would have also made the bed look less like a trampoline.
If they had done that and adjusted the lighting to be just a few spots highlighting the dancers in a 'darkened room', it would have all had much, much more impact.
The interlude with the cushions was a bit of a flop for me. The 'floating pillow' trick was clever, but extraneous. I would have preferred to have seen a little storyline, or something to keep me within the heart of the theme.
Ultimately the story ended up being, "When the humans are away, the toys do a coordinated dance" and that's not as interesting a story as so many other things they could have come up with.
Having said all of that, this was a fun performance with several memorable 'wow' moments. Boris' trampoline backflips, C-lil's under the bed air flares, some of the coordinated popping sequences... it was a solid performance from a dance perspective, and very entertaining.
Eliminations
I was hugely relieved that Nelson's exit left DD with only one person to eliminate. I had a feeling that the decision would be based on whether to strengthen up the choreographed routines or the battles, which would put his options at either Toozin, Liang Liang or Jr Taco in my mind. DD has built a fierce battle team, so I wasn't at all surprised by his choice.
Some savage cuts on the other teams. Bunta, Kenken, Boris, C-Lil! these are some of my favorites. Sad to see them all go.
Daswitch's goodbye speech was so gut-wrenching. The relationship he and Acky have is so special, it had to have been a huge loss to have to step back into his regular life. Such a beautiful friendship, so sad to see those two separated. 😢
What a massive post. If you got this far, you get a 🍭!

The rest of the season's recaps can be found here.
I absolutely love this idea of matching street dancers with various other, more traditional dance styles. What an incredible opportunity to see new approaches to dance, and what a great opportunity for the dancers to learn something new and expose themselves to different styles and moves.
Hilty and Bosch with Hou Yao and Zhuang Ting vs AC and Ibuki with Li Mengju and Yu Xuejiao
What a cruel match-up. Team BOOM! vs two of my favorites!!!
Team BOOM!
I love the idea of fusing locking with Latin dancing. It is such an excellent pairing and it worked ridiculously well. Especially since H&B are so precise and coordinated.
I was completely blown away by this performance. Everything about it was perfection. I have no complaints whatsoever. They were such a natural match for this style and they did an outstanding job of making an exciting dance performance that felt fun, exuberant and skillful. Fantastic job.
Team Han Geng
AC LOOKED SO AMAZING!!!!!!
I was so excited when I saw that they got Flamenco. Flamenco is one of my favourite styles of dance, and I was so so excited to see it in this context. It is well-matched with waacking. This fusion was surprising and very successful.
I died about a thousand times during his performance. I can't get over AC in that outfit and makeup. When he did that opening pose with the cape I thought I felt my heart stop.
Ibuki really shone in this as well. She fits so naturally within this "bright smile, big showmanship" space.
I was so proud of them both. They blew me away. I can't believe how much they were pushed outside of their comfort zone and met the challenge. There were a couple of minor errors, but I was so proud of how well they both performed.
This entire performance was so bright, so colourful, so exuberant, so exciting. I have no words.
Of course I was excited to see Team BOOM! win, but I really was proud of Ibuki and AC. They deserved to go through to finals based on that performance.
Chunlin and Eleven with Yi Lifan vs David and Keven with Su Peng vs Poppin C and MT-POP with Wang Jaijun
Chunlin and Eleven
That was some of the manliest modern dance I've ever seen in my life. 😅
Yi Lifan is seriously hot. Phew. He's also an incredible dancer and performer, which is to be expected given his position in his company but still bears mentioning because, wow.
Everything about this performance was a treat, not least because it was extraordinarily well choreographed, well staged and well performed. The story, the sound, the costumes... I'm completely blown away by absolutely everything.
I was impressed by how much growth I saw in both Chunlin and Eleven. They really came to life as their characters and were mostly indistinguishable from the overall dance group. They pulled this off and then some. My hat is off to them.
Team BOOM!
OK, WTF.
This takes me back to my write-up about episode 9, where I talked about how important it is to create oppositional tension in a performance that is about some form of conflict. THIS is a master class in how it's done. Wow, my brains are splattered all over the ceiling.
Su Peng is such an incredible dancer. There are no words to describe how impressed I am by him and every movement he made. His height and his imposing presence onstage took my breath away. His legs were mesmerizing.
I am equally impressed by how much this fusion elevated David and Keven. They really rose to this challenge and knocked it out of the park. I was so stunned to see some of the beautiful lines they were making, and the elegant moves that I hadn't seen out of either of them before. I have a feeling this experience is going to have a big impact on their dance moving forward.
There were some amazing homo-erotic moments in this dance performance that totally blew me away. I doubt that's what they were going for - they'd probably cringe if they thought there was even a hint of that - but that's how it landed on me. Loved it. In fact I'll never complain about seeing men rip their shirts open or embody sexual tension.
This performance really delivered in so many unexpected ways. 😅
Every moment of this performance was crackling with action and tension and expressiveness. Wow, loved it so much. Almost completely flawless. So so so proud of them.
Keven trying to act all modest about his bare chest during feedback was so cute.
Team Yixing
Wang Jaijun has brought something new and powerful into the dance style of both Poppin C and MT-POP. This Fusion worked out exceptionally well in terms of creating a beautiful flow between all three dancers while still showing some of the character of each of their styles.
I was surprised to see this performance didn't get more votes than it did. I felt they handled it exceptionally well, and it was a beautiful performance. I suppose it just didn't bring the street dance element forward quite enough, but I still thought it was a beautiful message about resilience, and beautifully performed.
With that one exception, the outcome of the voting otherwise reflected my own feelings about the three performances. I was so proud that Team BOOM! got 95 out of 96 votes. They earned that. Their performance was almost perfect.
Xiao Jie and Stone with Xie Xin vs Huang Xiao and George with Zhu Jiejing
Team Han Geng
Wow. I absolutely love this choreographer. The work she has created here is stunning. This piece was packed full of jaw-dropping moments. The use of this flowing clothing was so brilliant in the way that it created an intense rippling effect when they moved, which was especially powerful when they did the rapid shuddering at a few points.
I found the pacing and the sharpness and the beauty of this piece, and the smart, quick moves interspersed with slow motion and reverse effects, totally haunting.
It was good to see this fierce choreographer whip these boys into shape. She handled them well. Unfortunately they didn't quite rise to the occasion. Not the way that I would have expected them to at this level. I was a bit disappointed with their performance. They both stood out to me as not being at the same level of the dancers they were working with. Especially Stone.
Having said that, it was a beautiful piece and I really enjoyed it. So memorable.
Team Yixing
For those who are familiar with the film but were confused by the story - the performance is based on the opera (the one the lead characters in the film were performing in), not the film.
This was a breathtaking performance, almost flawless. This choreographer is so impressive. She managed to bring the story and characters to life, and to immerse us in the action, with nothing but a red chair.
The choreography was dramatic and powerful, with many 'wow' moments, yet it still managed to come across as understated and exquisitely tasteful. There were so many reveals, things that felt fresh and new.
George and Huang Xiao really rose to the occasion and gave us an incredible, totally convincing performance. The fusion of styles was excellent. We could clearly see elements of both styles, yet they flowed together very harmoniously. This team matched the challenge perfectly, and deserved their win.
Acky and Ma Xiaolong with Lui Fuyang vs Gogo Brothers and Luo Wen Bo
Team Han Geng
I was really transported with this story. So beautiful and fantastical, and so well-performed. This trio was perfection. I loved seeing the three of them together. They had excellent chemistry.
Lui Fuyang is an exquisite dancer. The elegance and grace of his movements were stunning.
The costumes and stage setting and the beautiful illustrations in the background - especially with the two cranes flying off at the end - really transported the viewer into another world. The costumes were so understated, and very creative.
I loved the way the choreography gave us contrasts and tension while still feeling fluid and harmonious.
Acky once again shows his gift for conveying a character. He really brought that old man to life. I'm so impressed by him. HIS PERFORMANCE! Wow.
The fusion of styles in this piece worked out exceptionally well. I loved this performance so much - among my favorites of the night.
It was exciting to see the Mongolian dance performance during feedback. They both moved so gracefully, and it was interesting to see the differences in style between Han Geng and Lui Fuyang.
Team Yixing
Luo Wen Bo is so beautiful and fairy-like. So tall and elegant. Captivating. Her eyes are hypnotic. I truly felt like I couldn't look away from her throughout the performance and feedback. She has magnetism on a level that is rarely seen.
This is another performance that transported me to a completely different place. I felt like I was right there with them in the desert. It was impressive how they created an atmosphere that brought the story to such vibrant life. It felt so immersive.
This performance, the setting, the costumes - everything was so colorful and magical and exciting. The fusion of styles was quite good. It was smart to cast the brothers as travellers; it gave them a lot of space to do their thing while still enabling them to integrate the styles. Really well done.
It was nice to see this dance and culture highlighted given everything that's been happening to the Uyghur people. Change would be even nicer.
Bouboo and Momo with Hao Ruoqi vs Mr Three and Rochka with Zhu Han
Team BOOM!
This performance didn't do anything for me at all. I don't know why, it just didn't grab me. Of course there were beautiful moves and moments, but the concept didn't grab me, or didn't come across for me through what was presented.
There was also an utter lack of chemistry with this trio that left the whole thing feeling flat for me. A disappointment. That and the costumes, which I hated. The music was beautiful, but not enough to make up for all of that.
They all danced exceptionally well. The fusion of styles was actually quite good. I just didn't feel any connection whatsoever between the dancers and the story, or between the dancers themselves.
The choreography gave us some great shapes and some interesting moments, but that wasn't enough to pull it all together for me.
Bouboo is such a ladies man. Wow. The guy just doesn't quit. 😅
Team Han Geng
This performance had some of the same issues that I've complained about in the past. Not enough tension between supposedly oppositional forces. This always ends up feeling like such a missed opportunity.
The dramatic moment when the swordsmen leapt out through the screens at the back was brilliant. It completely transformed the performance.
There were parts of this 'battle' that felt like 'both sides doing sword drills together' rather than fighting, but there were also some powerful moments, such as when they all came charging across the stage at each other. Stunning.
The shot toward the end, with the dancers all lined up behind Rochka and all the swords coming up around his head, was incredible. Even more powerful upon second viewing of the performance, after I had a clearer understanding of the concept behind the dance.
I think a big part of why this performance didn't quite come across as well as it could have, was because the concept wasn't made clear enough in the opening moments. The choreographer explained during feedback that the story was meant to be about a leader becoming paranoid about who might overthrow him. An excellent concept that didn't read fully in the opening sequence.
Looking back over the performance a second time after having learned that bit of information, I still felt the story didn't come across very clearly. The only cue we got at the beginning was Rochka grasping his head and shaking it a bit, with the other dancers in the background.
Having said that, it was an exciting, very dramatic performance, and the swords were a huge highlight for me. So beautiful and so intense. I've always loved sword dance - versions of which are practised in many cultures. Here's an amazing one you won't want to miss.
Battle Round
The battle round was scary. Bouboo really pulled out all the stops despite his injury. Kudos to him. DD's encouragement no doubt helped with that.
AC gave a couple of great performances, and at one point I really felt he was robbed, but oh well judges are judges.
It was a shame that AC and Ibuki ended up being back to back in the order of performers. It made it so much harder for both of them to get points because they kept on coming up against each other.
Of course I saw this coming as the points were unfolding, but it was no less heartbreaking. He looked so beautiful in that makeup, and seeing him cry was too much for me.
It was interesting seeing him mention Tyrone. Tyrone is truly a legend. He passed away last year. I'm incredibly glad that AC had an opportunity to meet him. I felt so choked up hearing him talk about what Tyrone wanted to leave the world with. 🥺
I think it's safe to say he achieved most of that with his legacy.
Honestly I cried through AC's entire speech. It was simultaneously heartbreaking and heartwarming to hear him bare his soul a bit. It nice to get a bit more of a glimpse into his experience and background. I especially love that he seems to have the support of his father.
Hand it to Acky to close out the episode by making everyone laugh, dance and cry. He is such a beautiful soul. I love him so damn much.
Repechage
Decided to tack it onto the end of this post because it was pretty short.
Overall the solos were fairly uninspired from all the dancers. I think maybe because of the lack of an audience, the energy just wasn't there.
AC - there's nothing to say. You all know how much I love AC.
Yu Wan - Still not feeling him. He doesn't get deep into the music. He feels flat.
Stone - as an individual dancer he isn't as strong as when he's working in a group.
MT-Pop - someone I liked from the start. Such a unique style, so much stage presence.
Acky - of course I love this man, and I'm not surprised to see him in this repechage. He never gives up.
The judges - I love it when they give us performances by the judges. It's fun to see the styles they're into. I'm always especially impressed by Tam Rapp. She's such a badass dancer. Some of the moves she does are mind-blowing.
The battle was hard fought, and it came so close between AC and Acky. AC really left it all on the floor. NGL I would have preferred to see AC win, but it's hard to begrudge Acky. He's such a fighter.
IMPORTANT: Please, when responding to this post, remember not to give any spoilers. I want people (including myself) to be able to read the notes of these posts and not get spoiled. Thanks!
I am so hopelessly behind on these it's not even funny, but here it goes.
SDOC4 Episode 8
Battles - Solo
It's always exciting to see the dancers battle directly against each other. I'm always excited to see them show their unique skills and strengths. It's also interesting to see how the captains strategize in situations like this. This episode was one of my favorites so far.
Rochka
WTF this guy is a powerhouse. Unbelievable talent, and so diverse in his ability. I know I'm always raving about him, but geez, it's so well deserved. He is such a force to be reckoned with. The way that he held against some of the B boys was incredibly impressive.
Nelson
I sometimes get complacent about him and think of him as a bit of a one trick pony, and then I see him battle. Guy is amazing.
Bouboo
Not enough words for how great he is. He's so original and distinctive, no one can touch him. Love him so much. And the big bonus is that we get to see DD cheer for him, which is always hugely entertaining.
AC
My only complaint about AC is that I never see enough of him. I love him so much. He's not just a great dancer, he is an amazing performer who knows how to work the room. And I have to admit, there's something really heartwarming about seeing some strong queer energy in this otherwise very bro-ish space.
REI Gogo
I said this last week and I only feel more strongly about it this week. He is a real standout who's becoming one of my favourites. He just has such a great connection to the music and he's always on his toes. He almost never misses a beat and he keeps bringing out so many interesting, powerful moves.
Yixing
I love that he stepped into the ring so early on, and that he is representing krump so well. It was a smart strategic move, too, because of the difficulty people have with the music. Plus I can just watch him dance all day long. He embodies the attitude so well.
Xiao Jie
His talent and skill are undeniable. He is among the best. I just don't connect with his style very well. It's a matter of taste, and his jaunty funky style is too in between clownishness and seriousness for my taste. I personally prefer those two extremes. Still, like I said, he is an incredibly talented guy.
Acky
The man is amazing. I think he gets too often positioned as a bit of an emotional/sentimental storyline, but he has the dancing chops to back it all up. He's a legend for a reason.
Keven
I've said this before but I have a thing for b boys. I just love the power and physicality and daring and acrobatics and flashiness of the whole style.
Ibuki
She is such a ball of energy, and so strong and fearless. It's impossible not to love her. And she is a really solid dancer. It was exciting to see her dominate for several rounds.
C-Lil
The guy blows my mind. His t-shirt stunts are always entertaining. His moves are huge and powerful. He can be a bit of a slow starter at times but when he gets going it's like a tornado.
Battles - 2 on 2
DD and Bouboo
What more could a fan of this show ask for? Seeing them dance together - and so well - is enough to make a grown man squeal. They work so well together, it was a treat to see.
Gogo Brothers
Dominant. Those two often seem unbeatable 2 on 2. Not only are they incredible dancers, they are at such a huge advantage because of their apparent ability to mind-read each other.
Poppin C and MT Pop
Disappointing. I love these two individually, but I didn't feel their chemistry, and much of what they did came off as awkward and poorly rehearsed.
DD and David
A highlight for me. DD the perfectionist paired beautifully with David, who is a great dancer who handles choreography well. The style of this performance was so refreshing to see.
I always enjoy seeing DD up next to top level professional dancers like this, because it's a great opportunity to see JUST HOW FUCKING GOOD DD IS. I mean... wow. His level of execution is always sharp, and he often outshines the other dancer in his ability to hit the choreography cleanly and expertly.
Nelson and Jr Taco
Didn't come together for me. They didn't have the right degree of synergy. The height difference didn't help, but I also didn't get the sense that they were as prepared as they could have been.
Xiao Jie and Yu Wan
Too gimmicky. As a pairing they work exceptionally well together and their ideas are clever and lighthearted, but it all needed more actual dancing.
Hilty and Bosch
Not as strong as the Gogo Brothers this round, and I inevitably compare the two duos.
Ma Xialong and Eleven
MX was actually more impressive than Eleven, which surprised me. He is just so smooth and elegant in his movements that it is impossible not to notice the superior flavour of what he was doing. He's also a bit better at connecting with the music.
Xiao Jie and Xiao Ji
Surprisingly disappointing. It should have been one of my favorites of the night, but it was an almost total flop for me. Far too gimmicky, and awkwardly executed. Just dance, guys!! Please.
Rochka and Boris
Rochka did all the heavy lifting here, but they worked well together. A great performance.
Han Geng and Acky
Amazing. Great chemistry and flow, great moves. Han Geng always impresses me, and he is so well paired with Acky. They have a natural chemistry together.
Ibuki and Eleven
Whaaaaaaaaaat?!? Wow. So strong together. What a surprising, powerful pairing. They really killed it. I love you, DD, but they were robbed.
DD and Jr Taco
A bit weaker than the other DD pairings, but DD's solo part was great. It's always good to see the judges acknowledge his talent as well. Funny that he remembers the routines better than the other dancers, because he has so much more on his plate than they do.
Battles - Group Choreography
Team Yixing
Too gimmicky and forced. Too much staging, not enough dancing. It felt more like a theater performance than a dance performance. It was entertaining and well-executed but didn't reach the level it needed to.
Team Han Geng
A really strong performance. Seeing Ma Xiaolong and AC working so well together was a huge highlight of the episode for me.
Team Boom!
I am well aware that I am biased. If it weren't for DD I probably wouldn't even be watching this show, as much as I love dance. It's just too much of a time commitment.
With all that in mind, DD and his team make it so easy for me to back up my bias and maintain my level of enthusiasm and support, because they are just so strong and dedicated to making truly clean professional performances.
By far the best performance of the group battles. Really great performance really clear intention behind what they were doing. The mirrors thing worked well and was easy to read. The dance was solid and very energetic and they had great chemistry. Excellent performance.
Team Henry Lau
I loved the idea of this, but it just didn't come across. You can't just have a mask and a bunch of stairs and think that you're getting a message across about cyberbullying. It's too serious of a subject to not honour with a really powerful clear emotional message. I was really disappointed with this performance.
Final Battle
Kenken
It was good to see him onstage again. Too bad it was against Nelson and he had no chance.
George
Love him so much. Powerful b boy.
Keven
I feel he's at a similar level as George, but Keven is just better at connecting with the music. That makes all the difference.
AC
Killer performance, too bad for him that DD sent Bouboo out. Bouboo just really brought it.
Yixing
His second battle performance was not great. The jacket thing was awkward and confusing. Still, he had a strong energy and a few good moments.
Toozin
He wasn't strong enough to beat Yixing, sadly. Not enough power or variety.
Bouboo vs MT Pop
DD was smart to bring him in to win back the floor. Seeing the two of them battle was a treat. I really love them both. They both did well, Bouboo is just a tough guy to beat, for obvious reasons.
Keven vs C-Lil
Keven killed it, he really killed it. I love them both, and it was fun to watch, but Keven just has a stronger ability to flow with the music.
AC vs YOU from Hilty and Bosch
KING AC. That's all.
REI Gogo
Like I've said before, he is a favorite. So strong.
MT Pop
A favourite of mine. He just has so much originality. I love him when he's in his best form. He's a bit inconsistent, unfortunately, but when he's on, he's really on.
Mr Three
I love this guy and his style is distinctive and interesting, but unfortunately the accusations of plagiarism earlier this season have coloured my perspective on him and I just don't feel the same as I did in the beginning.
Xiao Ji vs Keven
Love them both, was fun seeing them go up against each other. Keven is just stronger.
MT Pop vs David
David was on FIRE. He really brought it and left everything on the floor. Well deserved win. I was completely blown away, he exceeded every expectation. Sorry for ever doubting you, Bro. You really showed me!
Seeing DD's team win, especially hearing and seeing him cheer, made me so happy. Nothing makes me happy like seeing DD smile and jump up and down with joy.
Rochka
Poor guy. As someone with asthma I can totally identify with his struggle. Really sad to see him on the sidelines like that, but keeping him benched was the right call, unfortunately.
Nelson
It's really sad to see Nelson go, but I'm not surprised. It's got to be hard to stay away from home for as long as these international dancers do. Life is still happening back home, and there's always a risk that something important will come up to call a dancer back.
It was sad to see Bobo sad so fast on the heels of the victory. At least they had that high note to end it on.
Overall I was disappointed with how many dancers went for gimmicks over elbow grease this episode. There is a fine line between coming up with a clever, original hook and bogging yourself down with overcomplicated gimmicks. I hope they learned from the many failures of this approach and will bring more dance next time.
Let's Chat Season 2 Episode 7
It was interesting hearing the captains discuss the battles and what they felt were the highlights for them. I especially enjoyed seeing them talk about Ibuki and give her some of the credit she deserves. She's a really strong competitor.
Yixing talking about his coat thing was hilarious, since that sequence was such a flop for me. 😅
DD talking about how much fun he had, and it being so tied in with the winning streak, totally made me laugh. He's so competitive! He loves getting lost in the music, dancing for the fun of it and being around people he likes and respects, but he also just gets a huge kick out of racking up the points and dominating over his opponents.
I didn't share their enthusiasm for the pairing between MT Pop and Poppin C. Yes, they did have a lot of interesting coordinated routines together, but the execution of them was fairly sloppy - probably because they had too much on their plate. If they'd pared it down a bit and tightened up those routines it would have been a huge standout. As it was, it just lacked a bit of polish for me.
I totally agree with Yixing that the Gogo Brothers create a strong atmosphere when they're onstage together, but I agree even more strongly with Henry and Han Geng when they were talking about the power of their solo performances. Especially REI, who I think is among the handful of very strongest dancers on the entire show.
I was relieved to see Henry more relaxed and natural this episode, and for the dance battle as well. Sometimes the tension in him makes me feel tense as well! And thankfully his annoyingness has all but disappeared. When he's himself he's just a sweet, friendly guy.
"Pig in the mirror", DD didn't appreciate that one! 😅 Surely it was about him, though. Sorry, DD, but whether you like it or not you're a multi-dimensional person, and one of those dimensions is 'cute piggy'. Suck it up, we all have our burdens to bear! 😅😅😅
I was tempted to end the episode as soon as DD left, but I stuck it out, and ended up wishing I'd closed it. Absolutely nothing interesting happened after that point. The rehearsal stuff was OK, but I could take or leave it.
1 episode down, 3 to go!! 😑

Still trying to get through it all before the finale, wish me luck! 😅
Round One - Duo Battles
Keven and Jr. Taco vs Gogo Brothers
Keven and Jr Taco
I loved to see the encouragement DD gave the team. He's a good captain.
If you read my post from last week then you can probably guess what I'm about to say. Jr Taco just isn't always on with choreography. I have to hand it to him he really gave it a good effort and he actually did a pretty good job, but at this stage of the game, 'good' isn't good enough.
I was of two minds about the choreography. It was the right route to take, to go with humor, but I think it was a mistake to try to challenge Jr Taco too much. It would have been way smarter to find his strengths and build on them for that performance. I felt a little bit bad for him because it's not really his fault that he didn't do a great job. He was pushed outside of his comfort zone, and his comfort zone is already challenged with this type of choreography.
It's a shame that the last couple episodes have really highlighted his weaknesses as a dancer, because I know he's a lot better than he appears to be in these past couple episodes. I wish there were more opportunities for him to show his strengths, because he is a great dancer.
I also will never get used to the body shaming that sometimes happens in things like this. I know it's not viewed with the same distaste in other cultures as it is in my own, but I have a really hard time believing that it doesn't make those targeted by it feel uncomfortable and diminished.
Gogo Brothers
It was obvious to me before this battle even started that they were going to win. They are impossible to beat with anything other than pure perfection, and it was highly unlikely that Keven and Jr Taco were going to be able to come up with something that would meet that level.
Rei continues to amaze me. He is an outstanding dancer. They both are. Not much to say, they're just great.
Hearing them talk about their relationship and seeing the photos of them as kids really choked me up. I love those two.
Tao Tao and Cici vs Xiao Jie and Xiao Ji
Tao Tao and Cici
This was an absolutely beautiful performance. Miles better than the one they did in a previous episode. Much much better, I can't even believe it's the same two people.
A huge range of emotion, a huge range of movement, great use of the stage. It all felt very open and alive and breathing. Their costumes were perfect for this, and they both looked so fresh and youthful and airy.
Having said that, they didn't give us anything new or surprising. It was very much the type of thing I would have expected them to do. I feel like someone could have listened to the song and more or less narrated what was likely to happen in their performance without having seen it yet.
More and more I feel like you really have to be into a certain brand of het romance to enjoy them fully. Predictable romantic tropes that pull on the heart strings in a predictable way. So while I can appreciate their skill and talent, it's just not my kind of thing.
The thing about straight romantic stuff like this is that - while it can be universally appealing if it gives a sense of discovery or excitement - if it's 'the same old thing' it turns the other direction and becomes alienating. At least for me as a queer person.
This is all the same stuff that is shoved down our throats every single day in every single advertisement, in every single drama and every single movie. In the conversations people have at work or at family gatherings, etc. etc.
I think that if straight people went out into the world one day and suddenly gay romance was being shoved down their throat everywhere they went, they wouldn't like it any more than I do with het stuff. They seem completely self-unaware of just how boring and stifling it all becomes.
It's hard to explain, but I feel like this type of romanticism takes itself too seriously.
Look at Bouboo and Momo's performance from the previous week. Adorable, sweet, charming. It's hard to articulate exactly what rubs me the wrong way about Tao Tao and Cici lately, but I'm just so over it. They are outstanding dancers and choreographers. I'm just not into the type of storytelling they do.
Xiao Jie and Xiao Ji
Wow. I was totally not prepared for those two to come out and do.... this. I don't even really know what to say about this performance. It was so unusual for them and so interesting, and there were some really amazing moments that blew me away.
I've got to hand it to these guys, they have a special talent for creating smart, witty, thought provoking work. This was so original, and it was packed full of clever, high impact moments. Like DD said, there was an aha moment every few beats.
In terms of execution, it was good overall. My only critique would be that Xiao Ji did show some hesitation a couple of times, which made some of the transitions a bit jerky. More practice would have ironed that stuff out.
That minor nitpick aside, I really enjoyed this piece. Even though a part of me felt wary because I couldn't tell if they were making fun of same sex romance on some level (I'm not great at reading social cues). The energy and casual power of what they put together impressed the hell out of me.
Someone give these guys a show of their own. Not only are they an excellent team when it comes to dance, they are both dripping with personality and have a knack for delivering witty, engaging banter. I always find myself sad to see them leave the stage, even though all they're really doing is chewing the fat and eating into the show time (and extending how much SDOC I have to get caught up on 😅).
Poppin C and MT Pop vs Stone and Acky
Poppin C and MT Pop
Good to see these two taking things in a new direction. I found this performance very funny and cute, but with some smart, skillful moves. There were surprises, and it was a very energetic.
My only issue is that I felt the theme was front and centre, not the dance. There were moments in the performance where the whole 'cute' shtick started to feel like a distraction, and not something that flowed naturally through the moves they were doing. For that reason it came across as a little bit gimmicky. Like it was too conscious of the tone it was trying to set.
I love that they brought something so unexpected and so fun, though, and there were some great moments. LOVED their looks.
Stone and Acky
It's moments like this that you really see the experience and power of Acky. He is such a strong dancer, and should never be underestimated. The man is a master.
I loved their choice of theme, and it was well-executed overall. I think it just didn't capture the imagination of the judges the way the cutesy stuff did. But it did have some weaknesses.
Their transitions were practically nonexistent at times. Rather than flow into the next segment of the performance, they'd just walk to a different position on the stage. There were a few issues with their syncing. The jacket thing was a mistake (what's with street dancers and their jackets?! it's not interesting!). It felt like the jackets wore them and not the other way around.
Having said that, I actually enjoyed this performance more than the previous one. I enjoyed seeing their tribute to old school dance styles, and Acky is just so watchable as a dancer.
Bouboo and Tooozin vs Rochka and Mr Three
Bouboo and Tooozin
This was a fun and lighthearted performance, and very creative. However, it just didn't reach the level it needed to - not in terms of humor or of the theme - to outclass the other performance. They didn't commit to the 'cowboy and horse' theme enough in their choreography for it to come across as anything other than a gimmick. What a missed opportunity.
This performance left me with a ton of questions. Why is the horse slapping the rider? Why are they fighting? Why is the horse a lot of time not really acting like a horse?
DD was right when he gave his rehearsal feedback - they needed to make the whole thing read more clearly.
Much like with some of the issues I had with the previous week's performances from some of the dancers, these guys didn't sell me the story. They made me wonder why the cowboy and horse were dancing together. It just didn't feel natural or 'in character', and I didn't get a clear narrative from them. What did I just watch?
I had some issues with the humor as well. It was just too 'low hanging fruit' in terms of the comedic devices they tried to use, and it came off as silly rather than funny. They should have gone deadpan instead. it would have read a LOT better. If they were acting all Serious Business and Tooozin had a vibe of, "Why are you laughing at my horse?" it would have been hilarious.
They are both great dancers. We already knew that. What we needed to see was a strong, committed performance, and we didn't get that.
I also felt the costumes were a bit lacking, which didn't help them sell the story. Bouboo didn't look enough like a horse and Tooozin didn't look enough like a cowboy. It just didn't work for me. Sorry guys.
Rochka and Mr Three
Everything Bouboo and Tooozin's performance was lacking, we found in this one. These two really committed to their story and made it come to life. Not only that, but they infused it with amazing wit and some very clever devices. The whole slo-mo fight bit in the middle was inspired.
They worked their strengths to their fullest advantage and gave us a clear story and two characters whose actions and outcomes I felt invested in. Brilliant use of the other dancers and the screen at the back to drive the story home at the end and give the audience a fun reveal.
What more can I say - it was just an outstanding performance. The story, the choreography, the costumes, the attitude, the quality of dance. Well done.
Poor DD and Team Boom!, in last place this round. 😔
Round Two - Free Choreography
I have to say, I loved this section of the show. The blend of cultural and street dance elements is so appealing and so beautiful. I love that they are putting more emphasis on this for a lot of the performances.
Huang Xiao and George
Beautiful piece. I was struck by the balanced contrast between the graceful, elegant movements of the fish and the strong, bold movements of the fisherman.
The stage setting was outstanding - so beautiful - and it really helped to transport the viewer into the story. There were some stunning moves and a lot of 'wow' moments in this piece. Absolutely outstanding. So well done.
Ma Xiaolong, Ibuki, AC, Fanfan and Eleven
I have to admit, I was squirming with excitement to see a new piece from Ma Xiaolong. I STAN. And he definitely did not disappoint. I knew he wouldn't. I don't even know if he's capable of letting an audience down.
When he settled on silk embroidery art as the theme for this, I was very curious to see how he would translate that into something that reads well for the viewer.
Once again, he shows why he's such a master of choreography. I was completely blown away by this piece. It felt like I could actually see the cloth and fibres in their hands. So exquisitely choreographed, and so exquisitely danced.
I was proud of this team, especially AC, who totally redeemed himself after the previous episode. Which only goes to reinforce what I was trying to say last week - that often what comes across as a failure of the dancer is actually the failure of the choreographer. Good choreography should make the dancers shine, and this definitely did.
The big standout here was Ibuki. She really nailed the character, and every movement was precise, elegant and totally convincing. Wow. She earned that outrageously expensive, outrageously beautiful landscape.
It's exciting to see such quality work this season, it really is.
Also, I have to add that I love Fan Fan so much. She seems like such a fun person to hang around with. I think she and I would get along well.
Han Yu, Chika and Chunlin
As a huge kung fu fan, I was excited about this piece, and it really delivered on the power and intensity I had been hoping for. Wow.
They didn't just give us a series of martial arts moves and poses, they gave us dance, in a martial arts style. So cool. Wow. I absolutely loved their fast-paced, precision synchronized sequences, too. They are so damn good at that.
Why isn't CHIKA getting the attention she deserves? Is it because she's a woman? She's one of the top dancers on the show. She has the skill, the flavor, the discipline, the attitude to go toe to toe with any of the other dancers. I absolutely love watching her.
I agree that playing up the drunken boxing would have been entertaining, but it might have messed with the overall balance of things and been a visual distraction, and might have taken what was a really intense, exciting piece and turned it into comedy.
Loved it so much. Well done.
The whole banter about 'which dancer CHIKA chooses' really rubbed me the wrong way. I get that it was a continuation of some moments from the past, but it came across as positioning her as a love interest rather than respecting her as a dancer. I mean she's such a standout dancer. Let's talk about that, please.
I get that she's gorgeous and all the straight men are probably drooling over her, but... yeah it just bugged me. I don't think a single word was said about her individual performance this round, yet we got more than 3 full minutes of this sexist banter. That's longer than their entire performance!
David, Momo, Hilty and Bosch
GOD I LOVE DD SO MUCH. I always enjoy the interactions between him and his team. He is such a good captain, and does a good job of helping them elevate their work. I always get excited when I see him giving feedback because it's inevitably smart, fair and unvarnished. He shows them the respect of believing they can do better, and gives them the support of clear ideas on how.
The dance itself was fantastic. They always deliver a high degree of difficulty, and do it well. The story was just a bit incoherent and I felt like I lost the plot along the way. When the cups tipped and they started to play with the paint, I was confused.
However, the dance just got better and more exciting from that point. They gave a great performance. I came away with very mixed feelings. I didn't understand the story, but I enjoyed the performance.
The intro part where they were grabbing each other's arms was one of my favorite parts of this performance. It was so well coordinated and created a lot of dramatic suspense and tension.
I was surprised to see DD's team win this round. I felt like I must be missing something because it seemed to me that their story lacked coherence, but that's probably just because I didn't understand it. Other people were quite enthusiastic about it so I will assume it's just a shortcoming in my comprehension.
Not complaining. Team Boom! is my bias, and I'm glad to see them do well. And it's not like their performance wasn't great.
Round Three - Battle
My thoughts in point form:
Han Yu keeps impressing me. He really is strong. There's something missing, though, in his connection with the music. It makes his performances a bit less convincing. However, he just keeps getting better every time I see him.
Poppin C is so good. When he's on, he's ON. Mind blowing. Plastic man.
Bouboo is a master who rises to every occasion and consistently shows me something new. I am surprised by how much he still surprises me.
Are Momo and Bouboo dating or something? There's such flirtatious banter from her...
Rochka is unbelievable. So versatile, so much energy and style, so much originality, so many WOW moves.
Ibuki is a powerhouse, and unbelievably charismatic. She has so much strength as a battler.
David works so damn hard. The guy never quits. He's a real fighter who knows how to pull out the right moves at the right time.
Acky is amazing. One of the things I love about him is how mobile he is. He covers so much ground, and in such an exciting way.
Rei has such endless musicality and style. His skill is through the roof. Love him so much.
Half the fun of every battle is watching DD cheer for the dancers. They should have a 'DD cam' up in the corner at all times, or beter yet, a split-screen view.
As much as I love Rei, I was pissed when he won that last battle with David. His was the superior performance, and that's not bias speaking. I generally prefer Rei over David as a dancer. But here, David showed better dance moves, he was deeper in the music, he showed more originality and breadth. I love Rei, but his performance that round was too static.
Eliminations
I knew DD would get rid of Tooozin and Jr Taco. No surprises there.
I wasn't surprised by Han Geng's choices either. Fan Fan and Xiao Ji are both amazing, but as the team goes into the semifinals the other dancers are a safer bet.
Henry getting rid of CHIKA was an outrage. She is the second-strongest dancer on his team. Tao Tao and Cici aren't going to win him the big prize, and Han Yu didn't come through for him in the battle, but CHIKA has been solid throughout. Wow. Not happy. Especially after he promised her a chance to show herself. Argh.
Rochka is such a softie. I love him so much.
One more episode before the finale! Getting excited. Although very, very tired! 😅
