Totals for the SDS 3 day+ bonus day 128 miles 21,500 feet of climbing/descending. 19 hours of pedaling. Great write-up by @mrkenlohr: "Big mountain mileage early this week on the #sdstour Day 1 was a grueling 50mi/9kft climbfest from the Stokesville Lodge through the Southern Traverse that had me in a really, really bad place despite the sunny weather, but the positivity flowing from the group and the guides got me me through to the end with a glorious descent to the shore of the Cowpasture River where Shenandoah Mountain Touring had food and beers waiting for us. A quick shuttle ride got us to the lodge in Douthat. Day 2 was a more mellow 20mi day in a misty Douthat featuring a 4mi/1400ft pull up Stony Run Trail that started friendly but got meaner, all worth it for some of the most mindblowing descents around. The final day 3 was another big mileage day with a 40mi/7500ft misty mountain hop from Douthat back to Stokesville with a shuttle to get us most of the way up Elliott Knob. Rock gardens were super-sketch in the wet conditions but fast descents got us to the final lunch stop before an AMAZINGLY perfectly graded climb up Dowells Draft before the ride down one of the best if not THE best trail on the east coast, Lookout Mountain trail. HUGE THANKS to Chris Scott and all the guides for sweating all the details (ride routes, on-trail support, breakfast/lunch/dinner/snacks, shuttles) to make this an amazing experience full of memories to last a lifetime. Thanks Harlan Price and Gertie for all the support on and off the trail, including the S&S shuttle at Douthat. Thanks Chris Nystrom for all of the organization. And thanks to everyone in the group for supporting one another to get through three grueling days on the bike in less-than-ideal conditions. If you ever have the opportunity to do the Stokesville-Douthat-Stokesville 3-day tour, or any event put on by Shenandoah Mountain Touring, trust that they do an AMAZING job! Just bring your climbing legs and a positive mental attitude." . @stokesvillelodge @shenandoahmountaintouring @weird_beard @cbnystrom @trailwerkscyclery @2big2ride72 #familybikeshopcroftonmd #sdstour #mtnbike

"Stokesville Douthat Stokesville 3 day is a pretty rad bicycling adventure in the mountains. The ride begins at the Stokesville Lodge & Stokesville Campground and heads out into the amazing and remote George Washington National Forest. The route summits 8 large mountains that feature singletrack beyond your wildest dreams! It is a must ride for the advanced mountain biker. Guide Service is provided by Shenandoah Mountain Touring." http://www.mtntouring.com/mountain/htm/home/page_home.htm @cbnystrom @2big2ride72 #mtb #mountainbike #bicycle #cycling @stokesvillelodge #trailride #traillove
