When my partner sleeps, they always snuggle up against me. But it's not simple snuggling, no. It's way more.
It starts pretty calm, a gentle nuzzle against my back or literally anywhere else to understand where I am and how I am laying in bed.
Then, they swing one arm around my waist, nuzzle more, make some content little squeaks that honestly, if I weren't already in love with them they'd make me fall in like 0.2 seconds.
That's not all there is, though.
No, cause after one arm comes a leg, then the other one, then their entire body weight if I'm lucky. I'm stronger than them and they don't interfere with my breathing or comfort in any way. It actually feels nice, like a squishy weighted blanket that hugs you and makes happy sounds. Heaven.
Most of the times I wake up during their snuggling. Which happens at least twice a night. And it's not bad I don't feel like I sleep worse because they wake me up or anything, it's actually the opposite cause I'm so used to sleeping with them that falling asleep on my own has become quite the struggle.
When they're awake, they tell me they sleep better when I'm snuggling them, that they feel safe and have less nightmares. So, every time they snuggle up to me and wake me up, I smile and snuggle closer, put my hand on top of theirs, flop one leg on top of them.
Do you have any idea how happy this makes me? The knowledge that the love of my life feels safe and comfy in my arms and that they unconsciously reach out to feel better and sleep better and they don't even remember it (a lot of times) when morning comes? The amount of trust another human being is putting on me knowing I'd never hurt them?
I'm not in their head so I don't know exactly what they feel but after everything they've been through in their life, just knowing this makes me take a nice sigh of relief. I'll do everything that's in my power to keep them safe and never feel like they can't snuggle up to me for warmth, safety or anything else they might need.
I pray it will never come a day when this doesn't happen.
