Things I love in a pairing:
When liking who they like causes real problems for the character
When characters are PISSED about who they like
lizard brain vs. rational brain cage match, basically
The relationship has to be built. There’s no instant chemistry. If it weren’t for the particular circumstances forcing them to trust each other, they’d never end up together
So. Timdami. Basically. XD
Damian: Both of Damian’s families chose Tim over Damian. Tim got the Robin gig without a blood tie, and fucking Ra’s al Ghul who acts like he’s big on bloodlines still chose Tim over Damian.
Tim: Damian cost Tim Robin, not because he deserved it, but because he didn’t. Because between Tim and Damian, Tim was the one who would be reasonable about it. Damian is the living embodiment of “The squeaky wheel gets the grease.”
*flails* For either of them to like the other, they have to accept some pretty painful things. That Tim does deserve the respect he’s earned from Damian’s families. That Damian did need Robin more than Tim.
And of course, I hope they don’t actually overcome any of that before diving right in. Because I love reading conflicted bickering as they are simultaneously deeply attached and HORRIFIED WITH THEMSELVES.

(Incidentally, this is also why my favorite Bruce ships are Batlantern and Batcat, while SuperBat doesn’t interest me. A Bruce who likes Clark is proud of his taste in partners, even if he has trouble saying it. A Bruce who likes Hal? Is considering developing a drinking problem and moving to a bunker in Siberia.)
