PLL: Books vs. the show

I just started reading the Pretty Little Liars book series...and so far I’ve got to admit I like the show better than the books. I’m only on book three, but I hate that the girls rarely share scenes, I hate that the girls are constantly sniping at one another (don’t even get me started on the Aria/Sean thing), and I hate that the parents are ALL garbage (even Ella...my absolute favorite parent in the show) is annoying in the books. The characters just seemed more tolerable in the show (I remember the moment when I actually started to like Pam Fields after spending most of the first season hating her). And I am having trouble liking any of the four core characters. Emily is basically a whimpering puppy, Hanna is a bitch, Spencer is a snot, and Aria is a total baby.

One thing I do like is book Mike Montgomery. He’s such a little shit, but he’s got so much more personality in the books than he did early on in the show. Also, I think they cast Melissa on the show perfectly. I literally see Torrey DeVitto in my head when I’m reading Melissa scenes.

Someone who has read the books just tell me: Does the format stay the same? Do the girls continue to treat each other like trash (for the most part)? Do the chapters ever become more of an ensemble thing or does it stay separate for each girl? I’m gonna read them regardless. I’d just like a heads up.
