Hi! I read The ravenhood series by Kate Stewart last year and I couldn't seem to get the story or the characters out of my head, so of course I had to make a playlist. Hopefully some of you guys get to enjoy it <3

Thirty Ought Six (.30-06) Live, Los Angeles 1995

These dudes were a huge inspiration to me as a young fella. I loved their energy and how fucking weird they sounded - the bass barely registered as bass but as more of a tenor voice, the drummer sounded like a machine gun, the lyrics were incomprehensible, the chords weirdly jazzy, and they were from Portland, which I’d spent very little time in at that point but was kinda fascinated by the grass-is-greener aspect of it. Also they were one of the first bands I’d ever heard anyone use the term “emo” in description of. (I guess, kinda? That never really sat well with me.)

Even though I never met Sean (bass/vox) the news of his passing a few years ago hit me hard. He was the first person of note I could think of who transitioned from playing bass in a band to playing drums in a different band, which is 100% something I wanted to do (still do, tbh). 

Anyhow, I’d never seen this clip until right now. Dunno if it’s even the best live vid out there (there ain’t a ton of ‘em) but given that I never got to see them en vivo I’m happy to have it.
