A sea pig request for anon! Specifically with a request for 'smooth' textures similar to balloons- I tried to find similar textures but if you'd prefer a sea pig stimboard with only vinyl/balloon textures, please let me know! :) 🐖🐖🐖 🐖🐖🐖 🐖🐖🐖 -🐺
I realized I never posted these altogether, so I'm fixing that now.
For recent followers, this is a series of marine animals I did last summer in an attempt to combat artblock. One of the best ways to fight artblock is just to...well, practice stuff you're not good at. And this little series forced me to work on animals, which I'm not terribly comfortable with, as well as mediums that I wasn't fully comfortable working with or using favored mediums in new ways.
The crab, shark, seapig, and penguins are oil pastel. The seal is gouache. The blue glaucus and the Mandarin fish are colored pencil. The sea otters are alcohol markers. And the moose are watercolor. They're also a joke piece because 1) moose are known to swim from island to island in the Salish Sea and Puget Sound and 2) my favorite animal.
I'm kinda feeling like I might do more of these someday. Maybe one of animals of the Pacific Northwest this time around.
Name: Gum Species/Brand: Seapig Acquired: ? Gift
About: I know which friend I go this from, but the timeframe is at a loss. This just appeared one day? Seapigs are bigger than i thought. >:3
The pig is on the move. 🐷
The sea pig Scotoplanes is one of the most abundant animals found on the abyssal plain. These unusual sea cucumbers walk around the seafloor on elongated tube feet, which keep them from sinking into the soft mud. They are deposit feeders, digging decaying pieces of algae and animals out of the mud using ten tentacles surrounding their mouths. Long, whip-like sensory organs, called papillae, help them find nutrient-rich food falling down from shallower waters.
Their populations are directly influenced by what is happening at the surface of the ocean. For example, large groups of sea pigs can be found feasting near sunken whale carcasses and other food falls on the seafloor. Learn more about these incredible creatures on our newest addition to the MBARI website: Creature Feature.
Adult Gray Seal, spotted just off of our island research station Mount Desert Rock. The scientific name of #grayseals is Halichoerus grypus, which translates from Latin to "hooked-nose pig of the sea". Can you see where they get their name? #didyouknow #seals #greyseal #seal #mountdesertrock #collegeoftheatlantic #fieldwork #marinescience #researchstation #MDI #seapig #marinemammals #marinelife #barharbor #gulfofmaine #wildlife #atlanticocean 📷: @alliedwhale
The Monstrous Sea-Pig. A fictional sea monster from historical sea maps in the 1500s. I created this taxidermy creation for a friend & historian, so standby for a video about it's history. #taxidermy #seapig #history #seamonsters #mariner #allismarkham #preytaxidermy
