“#Mars is breathtaking. One hundred years ago astronomers were looking up at the canals, convinced that intelligent life was living there. And here we are now, looking up at that same planet convinced that any time now it’ll be us up there.” –- Faye Banks, SEAT 25 Taking place five years after the confirmed discovery of flowing liquid water on the #redplanet, Seat 25 takes an original approach to the #scifi #space genre with the everyday character of Faye Banks, a seemingly ordinary British woman whom, at a young age, became inspired by the first British astronaut, Helen Sharman. “What was so remarkable about Helen Sharman, not only was she the first Briton in space, she was also a woman. How many of you girls will leave such an impression?” comments a teacher in the film. Director Nick Agnew and Maddy Cooke (who plays the character of Faye and whom co-wrote and co-produced the film) wanted to convey the reality of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. #Seat25 was inspired by the @nasa @apolloprogram missions the writers were inspired by as children; the lives behind those of the The MARS 100 of the @marsoneproject ; and the ambitions of @spacex , as Elon Musk served as influence for the character of Macmillan. "It was extremely important to me that the central character be a women as women in both film and science are so terribly under represented. I would love to think that SEAT 25 and the character of ‘Faye’ captured young women with ambition and encouraged them to #dreambig." -- Madeleine Cooke Catch SEAT 25 at the below film festivals: Heartland Film Festival October 13th & 15th, 2017 Tallgrass Film Festival October 20th & 22nd, 2017 Naples International Film Festival October 27th & 28th, 2017 #Film #Art #STEAM #Mars #WomenInScience #WomenInSTEM https://youtu.be/uDBOZHHohzQ
