Still Life Inspired Florist Designs

Seattle area florist is turning the flower shop industry onto romantic, still life inspired floral designs.

Sandra Wolfe, owner of Seattle Florist Studio LLC in Lynwood Washington has been creating floral designs for nearly 30 years. She started out as an assistant to a leading flower shop owner in Kaiserslautern Germany and now creates one of a kind floral arrangements for Seattle area community.

How did I get started in Floral Design…if you care. :)

I was kind of thrown to the wolves so to speak with my first flower shop job. A friend ran a flower shop in town and was short staffed and needed some extra help during the holidays. Needless to say, she was too busy to “train” me. I hopped right into the action and was left to my own devices. I was allowed to create as many floral designs as I could within the 9 hour stretch. With no immediate supervision, I allowed my creative juices to guide the design choices. The results were fabulous. Who knew, I was a natural born florist. LOL. All of my designs were priced higher than the templated designs on the shelves and every last one of them sold within the end of business that day. I new that I would want to do this for the rest of my life.”

Although I LOVED the floral arrangements at the shop, I yearned to create something unique and special. All of the flowers at that shop had to follow a rigid template that was shared with all of the other flower shops in the city through FTP, Teleflora and other corporate flower companies. Even though my custom designs sold quickly, the owner of the shop was forced to sell a certain amount of the corporate style floral designs in order to keep customers coming in the door.

After the 100th or so smiley cup flower arrangement, you get to a rebellious point and start coloring outside of the lines. I would sneak in whimsical designs that matched the “vibe” of the templated boring floral design, but use odd shaped flowers or unique fillers that the other florists shied away from. My soul craved variation, soul and beauty.
