Watching people on Gym Twitter acting with shock that the majority of SEC gymnasts are Trumpers is something else. Like, why do you think they CHOSE SEC schools? Conservatism is a hallmark of SEC athletics.

Tbh after Ohashi graduates I’m going back to being an SEC devotee. Like UCLA gets me in my feels but with no Peng, no Katelyn, and no Miss Val, I’m just not as attached. Like they’re still number 1 in my heart always but nothing gets me going like an SEC rivalry. Like I’m always going to love Auburn more than I could ever love any ncaa athletic program. I just really loved the 2018 UCLA team. They were so special.

Kentucky Gymnastics Soars Past Temple In Valentine’s Day Showdown

Maybe it makes me a bitch, but I can't bring myself to root for NCAA teams from schools that are in red states. Like, I pretty much like every single gymnast on Florida. But I can't get over that all of them chose to go to school in a state that has fuckin' Ron DeSantis as the governor.

And the Governor of Louisiana is no better. He's horribly homophobic and has a hard-on for censoring libraries and book bans. I can't even IMAGINE going to a state for an education that completely devalues libraries. I know many of the athletes probably dig on that. But some don't, and I just can't bring myself to root for them no matter how much I like their gymnastics. (And I do for the most part!)

That's probably why it's so hard for me to root for any SEC teams, tbh. (I mean, that and I HATE dynasty teams in sports and dynasty conferences are even worse that dynasty teams.) But aside from that, a lot of it is the politics.
