Design Challenge Our team was given a challenge to “Improve the Placement Experience” at IIM Indore
Customer Journey Map
Empathy Map
Insights
User feels disappointed because there is a lack of proper organization
User feels depressed because of lack of proper explanation of the less shortlists
User feels confused due to random nature of the process
User feels tired because of lack of planning in the arrangements of pre placements after long hours of classes
Problem Statement
“Participants not having enough support from the committee with existence of few circumstances that deteriorates the confidence of the people and lack of proper organization of placement processes.”
Prototype
Design Thinking basically includes customer journey map wherein you select a problem to be solved with Tasks, Touch Points and Emotions and Experiences. After capturing all the ingredients of the map, then we proceed to Empathy map which includes Quotes/defining words, Actions and Behaviors on left hand side and Thoughts and Beliefs and Feelings and emotions on the right hand side. You take surveys and questionnaires through interviews to capture all emotions, actions and beliefs through observation and letting the other person speak without direct answers. After design of Empathy map you will formulate and comeup with a problem statement. The sequence of any design thinking goes like this 1. Empathize, 2. Define , 3. Ideate, 4. Prototype and 5. Test. After finishing the Empathy and Definition part you proceed to one of key step in Design Thinking called Ideation. In Ideation you basically undergo brainstorming to come up solutions possible in many ways, like you think of zero budget restrictions, child like thinking, super powers, etc., Then you try to categorize the solutions and consolidate at some place to have an overall view. All these maps and ideas will necessarily be captured in some sheets and scribbles. After consolidating you proceed to prototype wherein you implement ideas and solutions to existing design and come up with a prototype. Then you proceed to testing of your prototype with some more interviews to get general perception of feasibility and further enhancements in existing design. After following the above steps you have finally underwent many stages in design thinking before you come up with the final solution. One will be able to build prototype rapidly and test their ideas.
Response:
Thoughts and Emotions during the workshop:
One can clearly see that they have faced multiple transitions in their Thoughts and Emotions. Design Thinking basically includes many maps/ sheets wherein one will put in their thoughts and ideas which will cover major portion only if someone goes through multiple transitions of emotions. One will observe and capture others behaviors and emotions while interviewing them through observation and critical thinking. Be it is customer journey map, be it empathy map or even ideation emotions and thoughts during design thinking bring many perspectives in coming up with solutions which will be feasible because of the critical observations and ability to capture them in many forms. Emotions and thoughts if not prompted to think in terms of zero restriction and child like thoughts will not have occurred to any individual trying to solve through brain storming.
