trivia: chapter eighteen's gelato date scene with lando is a perfect contrast to chapter seventeen's museum date scene, exemplifying the differences between the two boys.

her date with alex is a chance for her to learn more about alex, rather than there being an equal amount of focus on both of them. this is scene throughout the relationship, where she gets to be more a part of alex's life —his obsession with the mars rover, with the flashcards, waiting for him to make time— rather than him being able to be part of hers. she is the one initiating the date's more often then not.

on the other hand, the gelato scene happens when lando drops everything to be there for her when she calls. their conversation and activity then is catered to her tastes and preferences, with lando more than happy to focus on her without care for time.

one has to find time for her, and the other makes time for her.

fun fact: in chapter three the mention of Daniel having a knack for fixing vehicles is deliberate choice, a reference to his opening DTS scene where, when introducing himself, he says, "i'm daniel riccardio, and i'm a car mechanic"

trivia: the three shadowed figures that Y/N sees in chapter one are Lando, Daniel, and Carlos – all three of which have been McLaren drivers. in the a preliminary draft of second chances, the mobs of monte carlo were based on the different racing teams instead of by individual association.

fun fact: in chapter thirty, the reason for pierre's betrayal is revealed to be for the sake of his old childhood friend, charles leclerc.

the two of them are friends since childhood in real life and are still quite close both in real life and in the story (a small detail that lando happens to miss).

foreshadowing: in chapter twenty-nine, it's Daniel that suggests that the meetup with Pierre could be a trap.
