Second Helpings * Yoo & Seungkwan
A dinner alone, yet not at home. Yoo spends the evening outside dining, ordering a small meal of warm food to fill his belly with comfort. The family establishment has been frequented by him, and another normal end of the day means another normal start to some eating. Quaint as it is, he peeks over to see how other customers are biding their time, many actually already receiving their meals and chowing down in delight. One quiet man on the exterior perimeter of tables also sits by himself, keeping a hood up in the semi-chilly Summer eve. No reason for Yoo to question the man’s attire, feeling the cool come down as the sun lay to rest. Moonlight replaces the daylight, his order having been only five minutes out and already feeling an eternity in his wait. He watches as an American man gets on his knees and do a traditional, western of “Will you marry me?”
Mixtures of elation and disgust fill his stomach, Yoo only tasting marriage a total of two times, in his opinion. The whole restaurant fills with glee as they partake in observing such a lovely scene. The Korean girlfriend holds an incomparable smile of happiness, a few tears of joy joining in as she accepts the bedazzling ring. A ring of claps go around, even one stranger whooping at the sight of acceptance. Ah, love. Yoo still sinking into the feeling of merriness as well. His food comes and things settle. Slurping away, he gazes left again to check on the couple, and what do you know! The man once again kneels and the whole place goes up again in cheers, as if it had yet to happen before. Clearly the only person recognizing the repetition, he this time ignores the conundrum and just focuses on filling himself. A stranger approaches from the street and sits at the chair across from his table, shaking his food ever so lightly. If not for the food in his mouth, he might off verbally attacked the person now in his presence.
Annoyed face present, he stares up to meet the person’s eyes. Words come out of the other, “I’m sorry to bother you, older brother. Can I have some food to eat?”
