GALTx eNews: A Quarter Unlike Any Other!
Second quarter 2020 was a quarter unlike any other and, with thanks to our volunteers and supporters, we made it through!
Our Dallas/Ft. Worth and New Mexico operations found homes for 83 hounds and Central Texas found homes for twelve more for a total of 95! Dallas/Ft. Worth and New Mexico took in 94 hounds and Central Texas took in 16 for a total of 110 additions. Two came to us from shelters. One joined us as a stray. And the rest were surrendered by their owners, mostly from the racing industry. They came to us at all ages, including a youngster under one and several mature brood moms. Witchy and Smoky both came to us with broken legs. Sadly, Nathan passed away while in foster care. We send our condolences to his foster mom, who did all she could for him. Just fort this quarter, our Dallas/New Mexico medical expenses were just over $100,000!
So far this year, our adoption rate is on track to double our typical annual rate and our Dallas kennel is currently holding more than 30 hounds awaiting foster homes. Under pandemic conditions, our volunteers switched gears to minimize contact in all of our operations, including virtual meet and greets and modified operating procedures at the kennel. We have not held in person fundraising events all quarter and are counting on our supporters to give on line to support the hounds during these unprecedented times. We could really all use a nap with our bunny, but the third quarter of 2020 is already upon us! Many thanks to all of you who keep us going and who generously give time or money to make it all possible!
