Thorn Pattern Baby Blanket
I have five skeins of red and five skeins of golden rod. The second color is more beige than gold. This yarn is all cotton and I wanted to find a color pattern that will work well for a baby blanket. It might be for Dakota; or for the Tashchereau baby if time is short.
The WEBS site calls this sport weight and the label recommends size 6 needles.
9/14: I am trying the Thorn Pattern on P 97 of Walker’s 2nd today. The texture of this yarn makes aluminum needles necessary. I cast on with size 7. The stockinette stitch is pretty. The pattern also seems to work pretty well, but I’m going to test and Interlaced Stripe from page 96.
The Interlaced Stripe is nice and not difficult. It does not look like the sample. The dark color in the sample seems to create a vertical stripe. What’s that? Nevertheless, this is the stitch I’ll use. I think it’s fun.
How many stitches? I think I want the blanket about 32” wide. When I tested the stockinette with the Thorn Pattern and size 7, I determined I’d need 128 stitches. When I calculated the Interlaced Stripe with the size 7, 128 was still the result.
Now, I’ll test a size 8. I’d probably still use 128 stitches and the blanket would be a little wider. With size 8, I think the fabric will be less firm. The question is: do I like that better?
