I know tight calls call for tight measures, but I think showing off your trump card in a duel with a new kid to the next of you isn’t a great idea
The soulful sounds of Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas returns to Riot Fest this year. For this appearance on David Letterman’s Late Show, “Detroit Jess” and the band performed Sorry I Stole Your Man from their 2014 full length album Secret Evil.
HOW DID I MISS THIS: Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas
Last week, I did something I almost never do. I abandoned one of my personal concert etiquette rules, and became guilty of something I often judge. *deep breath* I neglected to familiarize myself with the opening band for J. Roddy & the Business. Even more embarrassing, when asked about the opener that night, I responded, “It’s some band with a girl’s name in it.” Yikes.
Well, as it turns out, the joke is on me because Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas stole my heart. They were captivating, and electrifying. Natives of Detroit, the band seems to pull influence from a diverse range of styles including jazz, soul, indie-pop, folk, surf-rock, and even punk. It is fairly difficult to define the band by any single genre, but this “je ne sais quoi” quality is charming and irresistible. Might I add, Jessica Hernandez is a total babe with an absolutely stellar voice.
Needless to say, I’m kicking myself for not discovering Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas any sooner. Seriously, how did I miss this?!

I’ve been a bad person and used the word “Pop” as a catchall for any type of music that’s accessible and difficult to pin down. Sorry about that. Anyway, catchy song, girl has good range, fun album.
