At least there were some familiar faces at this godforsaken party. While she knew better than to expect the night to end on a positive note, she wanted to enjoy it while she could. That was why she was so happy to see Mia. Crossing the room, swerving through the crowd, she gently touched the other woman’s arm, trying not to startle her too badly. “Sorry, I’m stealing her for a minute,” she told the man that her friend was talking to, hoping that it wasn’t the man she’d talked about at the café earlier in the week.
“You look gorgeous as always, Mia. I couldn’t think of a dress that suited you better,” she complimented as they walked off, Monica’s eyes doing a once-over of Mia’s outfit. “All this to impress el guapo extraño?” She teased her friend lightly, looking through the crowd. “Please tell me I didn’t just pull you away from him. That’d make me feel guilty.”
