Something was going to go horribly wrong tonight.
Nothing in particular justified this feeling. The weather was calm and warm, a mild, refreshing breeze in the air, a quiet, starry sky above, and a crescent moon only occasionally hiding behind scarce clouds. The only sounds were those of the torches crackling on the walls, the distant clank of light armor as the guards walked the halls, and the various calls of nocturnal wildlife outside the windows.
Despite how beautiful a night it was, Link had a very inappropriate feeling of absolute dread. He was pacing up and down the hall outside of the princess’s room, where he stood guard most of the night. His senses were on high alert, despite struggling to focus on any specific train of thought, continuously wringing his hands and checking multiple times for his sword, and repeatedly glancing around every corner and out every window to ensure the area was secure.
He kept telling himself over and over again under his breath that he was being ridiculous and just overreacting to whatever small thing must have caused him to feel on edge. He was in the middle of repeating those phrases for probably the thirtieth time when the sound of guards yelling and the clash of weapons in the distance reached his ears. The sounds drawing closer and becoming more destructive almost impossibly fast.
Without waiting to find out what the danger was, he took off in the direction of the princess’s room, his only thoughts were of getting her to safety.
“Princess! Princess! Wake up, Zelda!” Link yelled as he burst into her room, he was not known for being very loud or really speaking that much at all, but this time, his voice practically boomed through the once peaceful room.
