From the kitchen, Ginny could hear Harry and Teddy playing on the living room floor, the three-year-olds laughter filling the flat. She had been tasked, by Teddy, to find more cookies, and Ginny wasn’t about to say no to someone who was so enthusiastic about her cooking.
“G’inny, you coming?” Teddy called, his voice becoming louder as he ran to the kitchen door, his legs shaking as he came to a stop at the tile. Ginny smiled at him, beckoning him over to where she stood at the counter.
“I am, but I need help carrying some of the cookies,” she said, placing a few cookies onto a smaller plate and holding them out for Teddy to take. His face changed in an instant, and he looked focused and concerned as he grabbed the plate with both hands. His hair faded from jet-black to sandy brown, something that seemed to happen when Teddy became focused on a single task.
“You got it?” she asked, and he nodded, his steps slow and deliberate as he walked out of the kitchen, Ginny right behind him. She smiled at Harry, who was sitting on the floor next to the fireplace, a mug of tea in his hand.
“Ginny let you help, huh?” Harry asked, and Teddy nodded as he walked towards the coffee table, sliding the plate onto the low table. He held up his hands in triumph, looking between Harry and Ginny in excitement. Harry held up his hands as well, and Teddy ran to his godfather.
“Good job! You didn’t drop anything this time!” Harry said, smiling at Teddy. Ginny smiled as well, remembering the spill Teddy had taken a month earlier, spilling his food all across the living room floor.
“And-and it’s not broke!” Teddy exclaimed, pointing to the plate. Ginny nodded as she set her plate of cookies down next to Teddy’s and sat on the floor next to Harry.
“It’s not even broken,” Ginny said, reaching over and touching Teddy’s face affectionately. He beamed at her, standing up again and leaning against the table as he picked up a cookie.
“Can I eat with the tree?” he asked suddenly, and Ginny nodded.
Teddy grabbed his plate again and shuffled across the floor to where the Christmas tree stood. Carefully, he placed the plate on the floor in front of the tree, plopping down in front of it on a blanket that was lying there. Ginny watched with amusement as Teddy tried to wrap himself up in the blanket before he began to eat the cookies. She looked up to find her amusement echoed on Harry’s face.
“His hair’s changed again,” Harry said quietly, and Ginny looked back over to the toddler to see that his hair had become a vivid red. She smiled, leaning against Harry. He slipped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her closer.
“He usually keeps it black when he’s around us,” Ginny whispered, and Harry pressed a kiss to the top of her head.
“It suits him,” Harry mumbled against her hair, and Ginny tilted her head to look at him. He smiled at her, his eyes shining behind his glasses.
“He looks so happy,” Harry mumbled, and Ginny nodded, pressing a soft kiss to his lips.
“So do you,” she whispered, and Harry beamed at her.
