I have finally finished watching Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath (2016-2019).
I really loved it! So many compelling stories from absolutely different people. Leah is the host and the mastermind of the show and Mike Rinder is her all knowing co-host. They both spent their whole lives in the organization. It seems extremely personal seeing them react and deal with those stories. I love seeing Leah being so compassionate and so eager to help. Mike and Leah's chemistry is amazing (that's what you get for putting an Aries and a Gemini together duh). I love them both being so professional. Amazing to think Leah put it all together. She won an Emmy after the first season and has been a nominee every year ever since. I really enjoyed the variety and the exhaustive details of each perpetration. This provides so much depth inside an otherwise closed off community. You should really check it out!
Taylor Kitsch as David Koresh in TV series Waco (2018) Waco is the first show I’ve seen about any kind of cult. I was so shocked, I’ve never heard about this. The barbarity that occurred had a strong affect on me. After the show I watched the documentary film, which gave even more perspective Waco: Madman or Messiah (2018). Recently I watched a TV movie Witness to Waco: Inside the Siege (2009). It wasn’t so good. Mostly it showed how it was perceived from the outside, regardless of them acquiring ex parishioners, who survived the siege. All in all, I advise watching all of those pictures, if you’re interested in what happened.
Going Clear: Scientology & the Prison of Belief (2015) One of the first documentaries I’ve watched on The Church of Scientology. I’d say it’s one of the most important and successful pictures produced as a means of uncovering the truth and educating the general public about the cult. One of the big advantages of this project is the people interviewed. All of them held high positions in the church’s hierarchy or otherwise were deeply involved. Such information they provide can be obtained only from the people who were deep deep in the guts of the whole situation. Nobody from the outside could ever obtain such details. The narration is simple, it lays out the whole picture of the sect in accessible language. As pictured in correct order: Mike Rinder, Mark Rathbun, Jason Beghe.
