Okay I feel like this might be my Gundam hot take but...

I kinda liked Destiny more than SEED.

Someone else wrote a post that I'm not gonna dig up rn but I felt it echoed a similar sentiment I have with this series in that SEED was always at it's best when it wasn't trying to simply parrot original Gundam. In SEED it always felt like they weren't confident enough in their own original material and so you'd see story beats get repeated almost 1:1 from '79 but like, worse.

In Destiny it feels like they've gained that confidence and tried to do something more unique instead of just rip off Zeta (to be clear though, there are some Zeta analogues in characters like Shinn and Stella). Watching felt a lot more fresh to me and, even if it failed to execute, brought a lot of cool concepts to the table. I think if I had to give a proper comparison between SEED and Destiny then I'd say Destiny has much lower lows than SEED but also much higher highs while SEED itself is pretty middling throughout most of it's runtime.

Imo, SEED is at it's best when it's a messy character drama and Destiny just gives us a lot more interesting characters. Genuinely, I could not give less of a fuck about Kira's high school friends and was glad they were mostly dropped from Destiny. And while I don't care for how they handled Athrun in the first half of the show and Cagalli for... most of the show- I think they really did a good job with everyone else.

Durandal was a compelling character and villain and watching him manipulate Shinn throughout the show was genuinely horrifying.

Kira I think benefits from me having watched SEED and Freedom recently to understand where his head's at because I think he's a lot more subtle than people realize. He stands out more on his own rather than just being "sauceless amuro" but remains mostly kinda bland.

And what really impressed me about Destiny was it got me to actually like Lacus Clyne. While the Cosmic Era never really feels like it challenges her all that much, Destiny at least showed a Lacus that physically had to struggle and fight for her ideals a bit more and god I wish we got more of that.

I don't know how else to end this post so I guess that mostly concludes my rambling thoughts on SEED Destiny. I guess the only thing I could add is that while I understand 100% why other people wouldn't like Destiny, I think it's exactly what I enjoy about C.E.

SEED is a terribly stupid series and I don't mind that and so I'm a bit more receptive to some of the dumb shit in Destiny when it gets followed up with Shinn 1 v 10ing a bunch of dudes in a Gundam with a big ass laser sword.

ANYWAY! The MGEX was a phenomenal build. I firmly believe that if you feel comfortable with at least MG’s then you can absolutely build this with 0 issues. The entire process is so incredibly smooth and holy cow ALL the important bits are undergated so there’s like almost 0 nubs that show.

Maybe one day I’ll get the MGEX Unicorn bc I’m a slut for Unicorn suits but that’s like an extra $100 beyond what the Strike Freedom cost so…probably no time soon.
