Unpopular opinon: Clone Wars did Padme and Obi-Wan real dirty. When i watched the prequels especially RotS, i always imagined they had one of the purest friendships?? founded by respect and love, not being close to Anakin?? im BITTER about this like do they even have any scenes together?? alone?? COME ON PADME TRUSTED OBI WAN MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE WHY DONT THEY DRINK TEA AND GOSSIP 😭😭😭
Yeah it’s too bad (and kind of surprising!) that we didn’t get to see them have an Adventure at least once in TCW, since we saw lots of different team-ups throughout the series. The closest we get to it is stuff like the non-canon Clone Wars novel Wild Space, which IS hilarious (for like, an infinite number of reasons) but doesn’t really give off a “pals hanging out” vibe so much as it has the vibe of two people who are thisclose to having a full-on slap-fight over a boy they both have a crush on. 😂
Y’know, thinking about them being friends, with the added bit of Palps’ whole “oh hey how about I assign your OLD FRIEND Obi-Wan to protect you, Senator Amidala” thing in Attack of the Clones, my mind is reeling (and I need to warn you now that I am about to WILDLY veer off course from your original ask, I’m sorry my brain is like this), because OH THE CRACK ONE COULD SPIN FROM THIS:
A) what if Padme and Obi-Wan have been good friends for years completely independent of Anakin, all while Anakin has been pining over Padme to the point where he’s basically going to die of Yearning. Like...once Padme becomes a senator she and Obi-Wan run into each other and just start hanging out now and again, and Anakin has to stay home every time because he wasn’t invited and is also like 15 and very annoying and has homework and chores to do. Just picture Padme and Obi-Wan, they’ve been out on a shopping date, they’re stopping for happy hour on their way home, and there’s Anakin with his face pressed up against the glass from outside because he wasn’t allowed to come along, and he’s not old enough to get into a bar and IT’S NOT FAIR, WHAT THE HELL OBI-WAN I AM TOO A GROWNUP.
B) hilarious crack AU: Obi-Wan and Padme were/are not only friends, they like, casually dated for 2 years. It wasn’t a big deal or anything, but they definitely slept together on and off for a while when Padme was in her early 20s. I AM DYING because this AU, with absolutely everything else in canon staying the same, would be THE FUNNIEST DISASTER EVER. You know that somehow Anakin would have managed to have ZERO IDEA that this was happening while it was ongoing even though they literally had sex in the room next to him multiple times, and once he finally DID find out years later, it is going to be a RIDICULOUS SCENE. Obi-Wan is probably going to REQUEST that the Council have him fake his own death again.
