So as you guys may or may not be aware, I play a game called
It’s a weird little hybrid game of a top-down shooter, zombie survival and Oregon Trail style adventure game. Part of what makes this game appealing to me is you can make custom characters in it. And as such I’ve created Muses from Tumblr and from other places on the game. Recently though, I beat the game, and the run to do so was my favorite of my entire playtime of the game.
Beating an Oregon Trail-style game isn’t Easy. But I met some muse characters along the way, and I thought maybe it would be cool if I chronicled the highlights of the run here. (Because of course, Luca and other characters are involved, how could I not.)
____________
For some brief background here’s what you need to know.
The Zombie apocalypse has begun, and after spending so long in Florida, LUCA and DARKIPLIER ( @icangiveyouanything ) set off for Canada in hopes that maybe they can start a new life there.
The run started to get good with this:
So much food. ALL of the food. This was early in the run, I think I still had like, 12 driving days left or something.
Later, PARI ( @bluehairedtales ) and HEARTS BOXCARS decided to join us. Although Hearts didn’t get to stay with us for too long, we made some great Zombie-smashing memories with him and his big honking fists, particularly when we found a bunch of 2x4s and he smashed up a bunch of Zombies with us.
The Road only got tougher as we made our way through what I assume to be South Carolina, I remember this tunnel segment being particularly difficult, we had to siphon gas from cars to stay on the road with a vehicle while running from a REALLY heavy hoard of Zombies.
But what the Zombies Hadn’t anticipated, was before that point we’d made a stop in a trader camp, and for a very small price of 5 Cans of Food, on the sixth day of our fifteen day adventure...
SPEARCHILD (later Speariplier) was Born!
This legendary weapon (which I affectionately call Gungnir after the legendary norse weapon) is what I partially believe led us to victory. It was bought from a SOME REALLY CRAZY BLOKE and forged from a STICK and a BOWIE KNIFE. And with the help of ZOMBIE DODGING SKILLS and Gungnir, we powered through the tunnel and made it out with our car.
And it wasn’t the end of our luck either! Because after that death-defying escapade, HEARTS left us to rejoin with the Midnight Crew, but in his place, CASS ( @workingatthenightshift ) joined us! With her MEGA-BUFF WEREWOLF FORM (really just a bloated strength stat :P) we were sure to make it to Canada!
(it was about this time that Gungnir was passed on to Darkiplier)
But not without difficulties... our Car broke down, and even with Pari choosing to PUNCH THE SHIT out of the car, we never got the thing started again. :’(
But even after a tough seige, through THICK AND THIN, we managed to get back on the road again in another car! Never losing sight of our goal to Canada.
Luca and Cass bonded a LOT as adopted Mother and Son an formed an UNBREAKABLE CONNECTION.
And although DERIAN ( @golden-gaze ) didn’t join us for our adventure, we did swing by his hangout spot to make sure, in the process we gained much needed Gas for our Car and Food.
And afterward, Cass scared away some bandits with her SUPER POWERFUL WEREWOLF BODYBUILDING ABILITIES.
By that time we were in the home stretch, with only a DAY left! We came across an old friend named SABITSUKI, and and we asked her to join us, however, it seemed she had already settled down into a new life here, where she could be happy herself. We still wonder if she’s still there in Maine, fighting the swarms with her Lead Pipe of Doom.
And.. alas... no adventure is complete without horrible tragedy and terrible, hellish hardship... and the final siege in the City of Crushed Hopes was where our skills were put to the ultimate test, in a nightmarish FOUR HOUR siege....
This was the most harrowing part of our quest... in a siege I call...
The Last Stand.
After a lengthy fight against the hordes of reanimated corpses, most of us pulled through, battered, bruised, tired and hurt... and sadly... not all of us made it.
Grief struck as we were by Pari’s unfortunate passing... and the crushing sadness I felt knowing that our group had failed to protect her.... we knew that Canada was just around the corner... she would have wanted us to keep going.... so we did. And, in time... we found the bridge.
And with victory in sight, we were inspired, excited, and above all, VENGEFUL! and we PLOWED THROUGH THOSE SONS OF BITCHES LIKE GODDAMN COMBINE. We fought with every muscle in our body! For Pari! For our adventure! Our efforts must not be in vain!
And in time...
At 9:45 AM, on the Sixteenth day of our Fifteen Day adventure...
We made it to Canada.
It was a long, and terrible journey. Full of bloodshed, slaughter, sorrow, depression, hopelessness... but also a quest full of laughs, fun and love. But in the end....
