Link had no idea what this contraption was. He’d seen the owner (he was assuming) riding it around like it was a horse. So obviously it was a sort of transportation. And he could kind of see how it worked. Chains and gears working together to spin the wheels. But what was it? Vaguely, he wondered if Robbie or Purah could make him one if he had the right materials.

Looking up, he noticed the thing’s owner come out of the shop he’d disappeared into. The blond waved a hand to get his attention and pointed to the bicycle (not that he knew that’s what it was) with a questioning look on his face.

Haha Shuji my man. Oh my god. Your word is scandal. I’m about to pee. This is a big part of Keen’s backstory and also possibly triggery, so i’m sticking it under a cut.

Triggers: murder; child mutilation.

Long story short, Keen lost their ears as a baby. They weren’t Keen then, naturally– Keen is an alias, technically written KEEN, but who’s checking, I’m not.

The thing is, it wasn’t “losing.” Keen’s a faunus– another race living in the world alongside humans, possessing animal traits. Keen had ears. Their parents were fox faunae– faunuses? God, idk– too. 

So: the scandal. Adriana and Crim Sforzo were out walking home one night, with their baby, and were attacked by humans. They were murdered, and their child was mutilated: a hate crime, as the child’s fox ears were cut off. 

This was a huge outrage, and naturally created the same in the faunus community, the White Fang escalating a bit in response. The child, as they aged, drew attention: paparazzi and well-meaning people clustered around the home of their maternal grandmother, who raised the child who would become KEEN, agitating and seeking a symbol.

It didn’t go too well, but that’s a story for another time.
