“Aw, man,” Eijirou said, staring out at the rain. “My hair is fucked.”
“Is that really your priority right now?” Katsuki asked, pulling his umbrella out of his bag and unfurling it from the doorway.
“I didn’t look up the weather forecast earlier! I didn’t even bring a coat, man,” Eijirou said, pouting up at the dark sky.
Bakugou grumbled something and Eijirou turned to see him holding the umbrella up. “C’mon, we gotta go catch the bus.”
Eijirou grinned at the offered space under the umbrella. “Really?”
“What kind of date would I be if I let your stupid hair get wet? Not a great one, that’s for sure,” Bakugou said, face going pink from his own words.
Eijirou felt a thrill race up his spine at what Bakugou had said, and he tucked himself in against his best friend’s side. “My hero.”
Eijirou felt warmed by the tiny smile that Bakugou’s face was graced with in response. this evening had, in fact, been their very first date. It was crazy, if Eijirou thought about how long he’d liked Bakugou for. Three years at school and another two living together as they each worked for their respective hero agencies.
It had only been a few days since they had fumbled through a matched pair of confessions. It had only been a few days for Eijirou to come to terms with the idea that Bakugou liked him back - and had done for a long time.
The date itself hadn’t been all that different from their usual hanging out. The difference, Eijirou supposed, was that he’d no longer had to hide how much he was staring at his best friend, and neither had Bakugou.
The walk from the restaurant to the bus stop wasn’t that far, and they got there in good time.
Eijirou made no move to step out from under the umbrella to use the roof of the shelter, instead moving even closer to Bakugou. “Did you have fun tonight?”
“What kind of a question is that?” Bakugou muttered, looking more than a little bashful. “I was with you, wasn’t I?”
Eijirou beamed, reaching out for Bakugou’s free hand. He tangled their fingers together and squeezed, delighted when Bakugou squeezed back.
“Hey, Bakugou, I know it’s not exactly the most romantic of settings here… But can I kiss you?”
“Wh- Kiss me?” Eijirou watched Bakugou’s eyes widen a little, and the blond glanced around before pulling the umbrella down a little. “I- Yeah. Fuck.”
“Don’t feel pressured into it, man,” Eijirou said, squeezing his fingers again.
“No, I want to kiss you. I’ve just, ugh, never done it before,” Bakugou said. He averted his eyes and fuck he was cute. “So it’s gonna suck.”
Eijirou pulled Bakugou’s hand to his waist and detached his fingers. He reached up as Bakugou gripped onto his shirt to take a gentle hold of Bakugou’s face. “Hm, impossible. If it’s you that I get to kiss, it’s gonna be amazing.”
“Sap,” Bakugou murmured, and then Eijirou leant in to brush their lips together.
Bakugou’s lips were soft - which was kind of expected given his quirk - and they were quick to respond to the way Eijirou moved his own. It was like his whole buddy was buzzing, and Eijirou sighed into the kiss and pushed closer.
Bakugou hummed, tilting his head in what must have been another example of his fantastic instincts to deepen the kiss a little. Eijirou had to fight back a smile as he moved one hand to tangle into Bakugou’s hair.
Bakugou broke the kiss with a gasp, and Eijirou took the opportunity to grin against his mouth as they caught their breaths. Then Bakugou was surging back into it. His hand travelled up Eijirou’s side, warm, hot almost, even through the fabric of the shirt.
Eijirou licked across Bakugou’s lips for a moment and felt Bakugou tense, grip on his side tightening. The umbrella clattered to the ground as Bakugou grabbed for the back of Eijirou’s neck to reciprocate. This first kiss of theirs was getting out of hand, and it was raining pretty hard on them, but it had been such a long time coming and Eijirou couldn’t bring himself to care as they kissed and kissed and kissed and-
The sound of a large vehicle passing by made Eijirou start, and they both turned to see the bus they were going to take bypass their stop.
“Ah, shit,” Bakugou said, but with humour in his voice. He picked up the dropped umbrella and strated shaking out the water that had collected in it. “Guess we gotta call a cab.”
Eijirou snorted, reaching one hand up to prod at his deflating spikes of hair. “You know what? Worth it.”
