Sam doesn't care much because they were horrible for each other, just lets Nick know that if he decides to come out Sam will for sure support him, and of course he would never out him, so he doesn't have to worry about that. A little like Kurt/Karofsky in PQ.
They don't interact much in general after break-up, it's awkward.

Sam visits his boyfriend after work or something and idk they had a date planned but it started to rain or electricity went out in the whole town so they just stayed in with candles or something and made a mini-picnic and they were checking out the titles and they talked and joked and played around with each other and then started to make out and then they had sex.

Their break-up is really friendly and sweet but they don't stay in touch after Sam moves out to NYC. They don't want anything to hold them back. Years later, when Sam is with Kurt already, they bump into each other at Comic-Con or something.
