DWG is an internet art website, showcasing a virtual company’s profile offering various illegal services to Greek citizen (job positions, facilitations etc.) using traditional corruption processes (including a bribery services price list). The artwork was critical of both the corruption in Greece and the search engines’ functionality, which promoted the website to the top of job seeking search results. By visiting the website, users were able to “order” one or more of the illegal services that the company offered, by using their credit cards at the order form of the website. Though the artwork itself was not fully completed and finishing touches to the text were missing, the visitors surge was indicative of the despair of a chronically unemployed and unemployable society. The order form was not active, neither data was stored on the server. However, the work has been censored and the artist was accused of fraud.
This presentation includes a significant amount of information concerning this artwork, its aftermath, and its reception by the mass media.
