Our project (Me in Time) has been awarded with the National Award in the Special Category: eTwinning project for Democratic Participation (Greece), All pupils have been awarded with the Pupil Quality Label and all project teachers have been awarded with Quality Labels, as well as with European Quality Labels.
Teaching art in primary school classrooms more often than not tends to produce work that is safely tucked away in school displays and exhibitions. While undoubtedly learning through doing, children as a result take away a notion of art making that is confined within the class or school walls, not directly related to other aspects of life.
In our current project we created stamps against racism, hatred, bullying and violence in 5 different languages so far, as part of the Me in Time eTwinning project, starting with creating a graffiti on the walls of our school.
Our school having acquired a 3D printer after winning the European, as well as the National eTwinning award in 2017, is what made this project technically possible.
More signinficantly however, children of diverse learning needs are having the chance not only to acquire skills in 3d printing, but are also encouraged to get actively involved in making art that gets their own messages across walls and out to the world, as empowered and active contributors.
Our project is therefore intended as an act of students's active involvement, where they create and articulate the messages they need to impact on the world, the world of their own future.
Finally, we release our files and make them available to any school/organization/individual with an access to a 3D printer, who wants to spread our message.
If you use our files, you are more than welcome to send us your images from your own installation.
Enjoy stamping! :)

Aiming at discovering a different alphabet, the people and the language within the existing economical crisis, Jazmin Taco performs at the Athens School of Fine Arts by using the Greek flag and connecting powerful words onto her body, at her “Poetry in a time of Crisis” performance. Coming from Ecuador, a country that lost its national currency in 1999 because of an odious national debt and changed to the US Dollar, and from a family that still cannot recover from that crisis, Jazmin selects people from the audience to write directly onto her chest the Greek words “Ελευθερία ή Θάνατος” (Eleftheria i Thanatos - Liberty or Death). The two words are a war cry that arose by the Greeks when they were fighting against the Turkish occupation and is still a motto symbolizing the resolve of the Greeks against tyranny and oppression. As such, the nine syllables of the above words are represented in the number of stripes of the Greek flag. For Jazmin, these words sound like poetry.
The potential to transform and shape society by creating structures that include language, thought, action and object has been first introduced by Joseph Beuys in his Social Sculpture theory. Since the Industrial Revolution, manufacturing has been synonymous with factories, machine tools, production lines and economies of scale. On the current project, a 3D printed still of the performance operates as the manufacturing of a powerful message such as “Ελευθερία ή Θάνατος” (Liberty or Death) that can be distributed and delivered to the masses exactly like any other mass production product, manifesting every citizen’s duty of awareness. Industrializing of elements other than consumer goods, benefits from the currently available aspects of the democratization of the industrial production processes and therefore inadvertently contributes to the civilian’s perspective and the development of a conscious society.
This work was created in June 2015, about one month before the banks were used by foreign powers to take over the Greek government and bring down democracy. More information regarding the politics of the days can be found by using the #ThisIsACoup hashtag.

Shapeways Meetup at the Athens School of Fine Arts
On Oct 2 2015, Shapeways hosted it's 4th community meetup in Athens, Greece. Our Meetup took place at the Circuits and Currents Project Space of the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA) in collaboration with the ASFA Career Office.
Local designers, makers, students, 3D printing companies owners, academics, people from the Museum of Paleontology and community members in the Athens area joined the meetup. They were able to meet with members of the Shapeways community team, talk about 3D printing and Shapeways, about materials and possibilities, about 3D printing in art, also about 3D software that is used for 3D printing. Participants had the opportunity to see a demonstration of the Shapeways website, see 3D printed samples by Shapeways and get inspired, see 3D prints designed by community members and also share their own 3D printed models.
Unexpectedly, more than 200 people attended this Meetup, which is a proof that there is a great interest in Greece regarding 3D printing and Shapeways. Luckily, not all 480 RSVPs on our Facebook Meetup event page attended, otherwise we would have run out of space.
Our Meetup consisted mostly of a discussion with the audience, where Shapeways community members answered questions, demonstrated 3D printed designs and samples and we had a very interesting conversation with our guests regarding 3D printing and Shapeways.
Below is the list of the community members / speakers who talked about 3D printing and Shapeways during this Meetup:
- Dimitris Fotiou, Sculptor / Designer - Shapeways Crew (Planned this Meetup)
- Katerina Kamprani, Architect - Shapeways member
- Chrysokona Mavrou, Architect - Shapeways member
- Antonis Kiourktsis, Architect - Shapeways member
- Antonella Nikolopoulou, Architect - Shapeways member
- Panayotis Melissaropoulos, Engineer - Shapeways member
- Stefanos Papadatos, Architect
Many thanks to Assistant Professor Jannis Skaltsas and the ASFA Career Office who offered us their space and helped us host this meetup.
Also many thanks to Lars Andersen for providing us with awesome 3D printed pet sculptures from Arty Lobster, an inspiring example of a company who doesn't have it's own 3D printers, instead it is exclusively using Shapeways for 3D printing.
