In 1984 the group released their single ‘Hanging Out’, however, the b-side ‘Roxanne, Roxanne’ was the song that caught mainstream attention. A boom-bap rap song about a girl named Roxanne, the song spawned countless answer records. The most notable response, ‘Roxanne’s Revenge’, launched the careers of both Roxanne Shante (@imroxanneshante) and legendary producer Marley Marl (@marleyskills). The album “UTFO” was released in the wake of the Roxanne Wars, as evident on tracks ‘Calling Her a Crab (Roxanne Part 2)’ and ‘The Real Roxanne’ with Roxanne (@the.real.roxanne), the first of two women to use the name The Real Roxanne (@roxanne_the_definition_of). Confused? 💋 UTFO continued to release albums in the ‘80’s, despite little success. Unfortunately, member Educated Rapper passed away in 2017.
