Self Directed Practice #5: Redo/Undo

Redo of “Ransom”

This is a continuation going in the opposite direction of my piece “Ransom”. The concept of using pop culture to express emotions is still present, but now it expresses a different sentiment. It also uses irony, as ransom letters are usually aggresively charged and talk of kidnapped hostages, while this note states the conflicting concept that perhaps they don’t want to be found.

Self Directed Practice #5: Collaboration

For this project, we wanted to use ready made objects but give them a different meaning. We decided to each choose 3 stuffed animals and then destroy them, without telling each other what we would do to them. The piece for the viewer can be seen in two ways: animal abuse and destruction of childhood memories. The connection with destruction of childhood memories is more apparent and relatable due to the use of the stuffed animals. It expresses a form of violence and torture, especially since we decided to add to this aggression by nailing them to the wall.
