Identifying stressors/coping with stress
It is easier for someone else to recognize your stress than you, so listen to them.
Inability to concentrate or make simple decisions
Less intuitive & creative
Extra sensitive to criticism
No time for relaxation or pleasurable activities
Prone to accidents, forgetfulness
Increased reliance on alcohol, smoking, caffeine, recreational or illegal drugs
Poor time management and/or poor standards of work
Self neglect/change in appearance
Aggressive/anger outbursts
Uncharacteristically lying
Think about why they are stressing you out
Is the reason for the stressor something you have control over or no?
If it is controllable actively work to fix it and retrain yourself to react differently and healthily.
If it is not controllable, learn to slow yourself down with meditation, positive/logical thinking. Train yourself to no overthing situations you cannot change.
Money - i overthink the time i have to save my money and i stress about every dollar i spend when in reality i have so much time and im doing fine.
Politics - politics can wear you down. Seeing all the hate and fear in the world is a lot on anyone. Learning to take a few days away from it all when it starts to become too much.
Letting people down - i overthink every situation im in causing me to become defensive too quickly and come off as rude and full of myself. I care so much about how the people that matter to me feel about me that i think no matter what im gonna fail, causing me to obviously fail. In reality i dont give myself the chance to not fail. And thats how i have to fix that. Believing in my abilities to be a better person and to be there for people when they need me.
Work - work is work and is always gonna be a stressor whether you love it or not. Learning to destress on my days off would help this.
Taking a step back from stressful situations to rethink it.
Practice positive thinking even when its hard to think like that. One thought at a time.
Participate in peaceful, stress relieveing activities in which you can step away from the stressful situations going on in your life and think them through. Taking walks, meditating outside on a nice day, go swimming, lay under the stars.
Avoid drug and alcohol use. This only supresses those stressors. You dont actually work through them, but push them down.
Talk to others who will listen without judgement about your stressors. Sometimes you just need to get things off your chest to stop overthinking. Just make sure youre not making your friends and family your therapist. And take the advice they give you, even if you disagree at the time.
Try your best to keep healthy. If youre having trouble eating, pack yourself healthy snacks to eat throughout the day. As cliche as it is, how you treat your body reflects your mind.
Take a break. If your brain is running 90 miles a minute and so are you, your brain cannot slow down to process.
Take mental health days. Dedicated a day or a few hours a day to slow yourself down and relax.
Exercise, its a healthy way of working through overpowering thoughts.
*Coping with stress and anxiety takes time. You have to work on it everyday and constantly think about how you can learn from your experiences and better yourself. Accepting things take time to work themselves out*
