Echo pulled the blanket over his head on the couch as helistened to his roommate get ready. He hated how he didn’t work. He couldn’t dothe same job he did before, he could not talk. Talking was part of the job andhe couldn’t even say a word that wasn’t his. He was certain that was why his roommate liked him now. He could not talk. Just repeated whatever was spoken to him.
“Echo, pay attention.”
Pushing the covers down, Echo sat up and looked over at his roommate who was looking over himself in his mirror. Again. If his hair wasn’t perfect, something else was wrong.
“Something’s missing…”
He could almost hear the gears turning in his head. His beautiful, empty, head. “Missing,” Echo sighed, pointing at the counter. He pointed towards the jewelry that he had forgotten to put on for the night.
“There it is,” Echo heard as he let his arm drop onto the couch. He enjoyed watching his roommate get ready for a date. He knew Narcissus liked being watched. Echo did a lot of watching lately.
Part of him wanted his roommate to leave. He had been in a bad mood for a week and now. All Echo wanted to do was watch Netflix in peace for a while and not worry about the dishes having to be done because dummy could not be bothered to do his own dishes.
He just wanted to finish House of Cards at this point.
"Tell me I'm going to have fun tonight."
"Going to have fun tonight," Echo sighed, leaning his cheek against the couch and watching his roommate admire himself one last time before his phone started to buzz.
Not even a later was sent his way as Narcissus left the apartment.
Bye he thought pitifully, curling up onto the couch.
