The thing about all of this so-called "self-aware" media is that what it actually is, is self-conscious. It's so anxious over what other people might be thinking about it that it tries to pre-emptively call out its own perceived flaws, basically trying to tell the audience "haha you don't have to tell me I suck, I already know!" This kind of thing is so awkward and uncomfortable in personal interactions, and putting it in media really isn't any better. All it does is reveal that the creator lacks faith in both themselves and their own audience. Literally what is the audience supposed to do with that?
