The albino male froze up a bit upon hearing an oh-so-familiar voice from just behind him. Stiffly, he turned around to face the young girl.

“I need to go.”

Almost nervously, Konoha’s eyes flitted about, landing on everything but Hiyori. His short reply didn’t answer either of her questions, and that’s what he intended. He hadn’t expected to actually encounter anyone before he left—this was supposed to be a secret…

Her complete denial of the situation was something she had grown used to since dealing with Shintarou. If it were him, she would’ve been more forceful, but she was dealing with a kid, a kid who had been through far too much for her age. 

“I should ask you that,” Takane said, keeping a gentle tone. If Hiyori was crying, knowing her past, she realized it must be something serious. “Anyway, let’s go somewhere more ... insulated, okay? We don’t have to go back to your home.”

At Hiyori’s blunt questioning, Ayano laughs nervously, pulling at her scarf. “Well, I wanted to go to a shop I haven’t visited since that day, but... I went down what I thought was a short cut, and... I guess it isn’t anymore...?”

It was then Kido knew for sure this wasn't Hiyori. Sure, it was her body, but it wasn't her mind. It was that snake. She could've sworn that snake was gone for good. But as it listed all the events of the Haze Hiyori and Hibiya were trapped in, Kido grew angrier and angrier. Kido knew it wasn't smart to provoke the snake (as if it wasn't going to kill her already), but she couldn't take it anymore.

"Oh, how merciful." She spat, grabbing the wound with her hand. The pain was becoming nauseating. "I guess you aren't sparing any mercy for Hiyori and the rest of us, are you?"

"Uh, what did you say again?" Truth be told, Takane hadn't been listening, but the other didn't seem very happy, so she knew she was treading on eggshells.

The warmth of his blanket was dearly missed as Konoha reluctantly extended his arm to pick up the phone beside him. It had taken a while for the unrelenting ringtone to wake him, but it eventually did, and here was a slightly grumpy android answering an honestly unwanted call. This had better be good.

After a moment of fumbling with the device to actually answer the call, he said, "…Hello? Who’s this…?" A yawn interrupted his question and tears pricked his eyes. He really just wanted to go back to sleep.
