Alfred made multiple trips a week into Matchak for various different reasons. Some days it was to visit Dick and go to Barbara’s place to drop off supplies and food. Some days it was to simply get out of the Mousehole for a while. Other days, it was to pick up supplies, mainly for the kitchens, and try to keep the meals somewhat fresh and not predictable. Feeding so many people was a bit of a challenge but one that Alfred was more than up for. They got regular meat from the hunters but he was always on the lookout for different spices and ingredients he could use. He couldn’t exactly buy too much in bulk at the market but he could generally get enough variety of things to work into different dishes that everyone ended up fed and with some choice, so that was something.
Basket on his arm, he walked through the market and bartered in his now rather decent Sokovian with the stall owners, greeting some of them in a friendly way since he was now a bit of a familiar face in this market. His basket was only half full and he’d just finished a lengthy negotiation with one of the stall owners when he happened to look over and see a surprisingly familiar face. He certainly hadn’t expected to run into her in Sokovia, of all places, and had naturally assumed she was still back in Gotham.
“Good afternoon, Ms. Kyle. Fancy meeting you here.” He greeted, polite but a little cool. Bruce’s history with her was complicated to say the least but that didn’t mean he had to be rude. “Finding anything to your liking?” The slight lift of his eyebrows implied he meant more than just what she might want to buy. No doubt Bruce would be interested to hear that she was in town and Alfred was quite curious as to why.
