Old Scrap vs New Scrap
Just like every other industry, scrapping has also witnessed big changes with the passage of time and advancement in technology. For veteran scrappers who have been doing this for 10-20 years, they know that how the whole scrapping industry has changed significantly.
From all those tiring trips to the yard to sitting at your couch and selling your scrap, the scrapping industry has indeed come a long way. You can even sell second hand items online directly to third parties. The whole process of scrapping has become much easier and convenient.
In the olden days, an average scrapper had to look around all over his house to find something worth scrapping. Then he had to find the contacts of the yards that recycle that scrap from the yellow pages. After finding a few scrap pieces, he goes to the yard and sells them at a decent price. Without much work, he earned some good and easy cash.
Now that he has seen the potential of scrapping, he decides to step it up. He starts looking around for metals as they have a better price at the yard, which he found out on his last visit to the yard. He goes around the neighbourhood to look for some metal scraps that he can sell. After a long day of collecting metal, at the end of the day he takes it to the yard. But this time he gets a mild deal on all his collections.
Intrigued by this he asks his scrap dealer the reason for such an average price. Then he finds out from the scrap dealer that if he segregates all the metal, he can make more money. So the next time he really gets at it and after collecting all the metal, he categorizes it in steel, copper, brass etc. This time, surprisingly, he gets much more money than the last time.
He is pretty happy with the money he is making from selling his scrap at the nearest yard. He doesn’t look for many options as he is satisfied and his yard always pays on time.
In the times of the internet, an average scrapper sits at his home sipping on his soda and keeps browsing for tips and hacks to make his scrap sale more profitable. He goes through several YouTube videos on how to sell old items online and make good money. Then he looks around his house and neighbourhood and hoards all the scrap he finds in his garage.
Later he separates all the scrap accordingly in order to get a clean price for his scrap. He read about the importance of segregating the scraps during his online research. Then he clicks a picture of the scrap and uploads it on Extra Carbon where he gets a direct quote. After being satisfied by the price, he schedules a direct house pickup and waits for it.
When the pickup arrives and picks up all the scrap, he gets up-front cash payment for all the scrap he collected. Without much physical and manual labour, he gets a pretty good deal on all his scrap. Plus, if he is not satisfied with the deal, he can look for other scrap dealers as he has endless options online.
So how do you sell your scrap- the old and hard way? Or the new and smart way?
