What I’ve learned from the previous post, on horror spec screenplay deals, is that the 1990s were the 1990s, yes, but for horror speculators, things got much more interesting later.

Take for instance the year 2012. There were twelve horror spec scripts deals in 2012!

MY STRUGGLES

If those that filled my horror story survey are reading this, I want to thank you. Also, thanks to those that are into horror, and had any kind of negative feeling and didn’t help, when I kindly asked. Thanks for letting me know how selfish and egoistic some individuals can be.

I want at least three-hundred horror fans to fill my horror story survey. I guess that’s going to take a lot of work from me, and a relatively long time to achieve. Still, awesomeness can’t wait, and soon I’m going to write a horror screenplay. A horror screenplay that wasn’t inspired by any horror audiences other than myself alone.

FILM INDUSTRY MIDDLEMANSHIP

I know that the odds against me, in the topic of breaking into the film industry are brutal. Let’s just explore some:

I don’t have or had a personal mentor I don’t know anyone in the film industry personally I don’t have ties to anyone who’ll grandfather me into the industry I don’t live in Los Angeles I’m not famous in any way (at least not with my legal name) I don’t have an agent I get carried away when I write and might write an EdWoodian script I am way too much attached to methodical story design And the worst odd of all:

The horror community hasn’t found me yet, and those who did find me don’t think it’s okay to support me for me to be informed on what to write next.

Since I’m kind of upset with this whole matter, I’m going to give some destructive advice to those that are just starting with this gig of writing spec scripts, and to those that want to start working on it:

Don’t fall for the “Sell to Hollywood” middleman industry. Now more than ever there are ways to get yourself noticed almost directly to the persons who really matter. Instead of being sidetracked by someone who feels entitled to extract a fee from newbies trying to break in.

There may be good middlemen, and I know there are. Still, they aren’t easy to find and I’d recommend searching for a middleman (and researching them) for a year or more before opening your wallet.

Just pulled the trigger on what feels like a big scary step as artist/label. It's been my philosophy for so long to total disregard the streaming services. They always seemed like the bad guys. I'm not sure if I'd changed my mind about that yet, but I've noticed my own listening habits leaning more towards streaming.
