D.I.Y. Art Market - Dalston

Today I spent my Sunday morning at an art market in Dalston. I realised that quite soon we will be putting on our own market, and thought it was wise to do a bit of research into how things can be displayed. Also, I wanted to see what the different artists were selling and how successful they had been. Collectively I think the market was really good, although there was a lot of different things on offer, they managed to make the whole event seem cohesive. The one thing on offer that impressed me the most was the girl with her little typewriter. For £1 she was writing people poems - on the spot. The line for a poem was a bit ridiculous actually, but it goes to show that the public like having something to get involved with. I hate to say the dreaded S word - but there seemed to be a few groups of work with a suspiciously similar style. As much as I enjoyed looking at little ceramic people with chubby legs and little feet, after seeing them on around 5 tables I had definitely had enough. I think it’s important when we put on our own show/market that no-one is doing anything too similar, though I can’t really see that being an issue considering how varying everyones work is in the group!
