Southbound at Selmer, Tennessee
Here we see a southbound train on the Illinois Central Gulf, former GM&O line, in Selmer. We’re not terribly far from the state line at this location, and soon thereafter the train will be in Corinth, Mississippi.
While it can’t be seen in this shot, the ICG named the GP38-2 locomotive, P. G. T. Beauregard, for the Confederate general who was in charge of Charleston defenses at the beginning of the Civil War. The locomotive was built in 1974, and I’m assuming named that same year—it would be interesting to know if the railroad would name it thusly in the current social and political context.
