At the age of 16, I was running for my life when my stepfather completely lost it again and tore our place apart. “You're all useless! Lazybones! Losers! There was a crashing and clanging as objects followed each other around the apartment. 'I have to get out of here' screamed every fiber of my being. So that evening, I decided to take my uncertain future into my own hands. An idyllic blanket of snow transformed the otherwise bare surroundings into a winter wonderland as my breath rose towards the sky like a small cloud of mist. With a growling stomach and not a penny in my pocket, I was looking for ways to get money when I passed a place I would later call my kingdom. A broad, well-dressed man sat at a storeroom and looked me over before calling me to him. My fate was sealed.
Between crime and darkness, the native Portuguese learned from an early age that nothing in life is a gift.
