the stupid fucking thing is that we were taking active steps to reduce reliance on the Chinese - it was called the CHIPs act, signed by Biden and repealed by Trump, that would have brought more semiconductor production to the US. Because right now, we can’t produce a lot of the semiconductors that we need (and keep in mind, semiconductors are in almost anything electronic nowadays - including kitchen appliances and cars) because semiconductor manufacturing is very complicated and requires very precise machines operation on nanometer scales. We don’t have the capability to move that here without a ton of infrastructure investment (which the chips act was helping with). We literally can’t make them here.
