The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces, is a documentary of sorts by William Whyte, based on his recommendations to the New York City Planning Commission. Set in the 70's, this film, just shy of 60 mins. discusses what you need to make a space well-used, and what features we subconsciously crave when we go to a public area.  Sounds boring, I know - but five years after my first Urban Studies class where I watched this film, I still think about it. It's compelling, and informative. If you can waste an hour on netflix, you can watch this.  And later, tell me how much you want to touch the water
