"I'm sorry," tendou whispers into the quiet, dark room.
he's met with silence. he wraps his arms around his pillow, squeezing tight to keep himself from running over to the other side and begging for forgiveness.
"how'd you know I was here?" semi asks quietly. tendou looks over to the doorway where semi stands against the doorway.
tendou wonders if it'd be weird to say he recognized semi's soft breaths, could hear his gentle, careful footprints. so tendou doesn't answer.
semi walks into the room and slides into bed. tendou doesn't risk reaching out
"I'm sorry, too," semi says, voice even softer than it was before.
tendou frowns. every time they fight, semi always apologizes. even if it was all tendou's fault. "it's not-"
semi doesn't give tendou the chance to finish. "I think it's just hard with wakatoshi gone," semi says, still apologizing. tendou can't help but agree, though. "I miss him."
"me, too," tendou says softly.
while tendou has experience with long distance, back when he was living in france and still dating ushijima. it was hard at first, but they found a way to deal.
semi joined their relationship after tendou moved back to japan. ushijima still had to travel for volleyball. tendou assumes ushijima would die before retiring from volleyball.
"I'm sorry," semi says again.
this time, tendou want to shush him. to take all the blame.
he takes a deep breath and reaches out to semi.
semi tucks himself into tendou's chest and tendou feels like he can breathe easier.
"at least we don't have to worry about him sleeping with a fan," tendou jokes, trying to lighten the mood.
semi laughs.
tendou presses his forehead against semi's. "we're okay?" semi asks and tendou nods.
