One thing I love most about Jersey’s experimental looped duo Semu Cà (the Channel Islands answer to Mogwai) is their constant progression. Latest offering and possibly their greatest number so far ‘Slake’ is rapid as hell. There’s so much flowing together in a sea of uber-prog instrumental mass chaos that it’s difficult to keep up! Reminiscent of current subpop favourites METZ, except with looped drum machine instead of actual drums! This group have become a live haven for the island’s music scene, even though there are only two figures onstage, the amount of sound that pours from them is astronomical, that being an understatement and a half. Imagine Thurston Moore teaming up with Glasgow’s greatest exports Errors ready to battle every member of Ikara Colt, only then would you be somewhere close to their energetic spirally outlet. One thing that has always gone in their favour, is their ‘Seventeen Seconds’ Cure approach to their structural writing, also the DIIV influence has been more than essential, no? Find this now, play it as loud as you possibly can, do a backflip off the nearest Chinese man, and embrace them! They are here.
