Song Story: Send Us Out
Each week we share a story about a track off our new record Kingdom Come.
This week's song, "Send Us Out", is the only real "upper" on the whole album.  We played it a ton last month and it seemed to really resonate w/ folks.  The story on this one is simple.  But first let me preface by saying that there is a lack of outward-focused music in the church these days.  We like to sing about God's love and God's goodness, but we don't quite know how to sing about God's mission in the world. So it has been a goal of mine to force myself to write more mission-minded songs. Past songs like Be the Change & Brighter were borne with this in mind. Â
As we were wrapping up our songwriting sessions for this album we really felt like we just needed a simple, hooky, outward focused song. Â The rest of the songs were so folky and minimal and we just wanted something that 'lifted' a little bit. Â So a few of us were passing around guitars and playing some of our ideas...sampling different bits of songs we'd recorded on our macbooks and so on. Â Then my friend Garrett says that he has a chorus idea. Â He plays us a clip. Â I like it. Â He says he's been sitting on this chorus for nearly two years. Â I go sit in the corner and flesh out some verses in fifteen minutes. Â When we left the studio that day we had a new song called Send Us Out. Â Give it a listen!
