Sengetsu Lampy by Takahide Hashimoto Design

The Osaka and Kobe based Japanese designer Takahide Hashimoto created this lamp that emits its light from a long and very thin shape. The inspiration for this shape is the Japanese word sengetsu, which describes the appearence of a very thin moon. This characteristic is further emphasized by the lampshade that is shaped like a Japanese sword and made of the same Damascus steel. The light does shine from the shade like the sharp distinct cut of a sword.

A concession to modernization in larger shochu distilleries is the use of robots for bottling and packaging. Here carton shochu is being produced for convenience store and super market sales at Sengetsu Distillery. The biggest rice shochu company, Takahashi, makers of Hakutake and Hakutake Shiro, makes 60% of their sales from carton shochu. The cartoon is inert for the spirit, does not easily break, and weighs less than glass, so is popular among Japanese consumers for its convenience. An odd difference from our glass based alcohol consumption.
